What is it with Car Carrier Drivers?
Normally those with a CDL are decent drivers but it seems like the ones that driver car carriers are chuckle heads. Why? Hauling is hauling right? Are they a different breed ? Not talking the tow services (they are insane) or single car delivery, I talking the ones that carry 5+ cars. Why do they suck as drivers ?

I'm not aware of an issue with them.

On the highway, they always seem to drive reckless. Its something I have witnessed for many years now - doesn't matter where. Other trucks are fine (with the exception of dump trucks sometimes) but car carriers always seem to change lanes without signals, drive in the far right more then just to pass, tail gate, and when they get on regular streets they don't always judge a turn or will bottom out going over a hill. Just an observation...

I always thought those guys were the cream of the crop. I mean who else would park a trailer full of Porsches on train tracks ?

Since most of the drivers around here suck I'm not sure how you noticed.
![]() I hate that trucks / commercial vehicles can use the left lane here. One of the things I miss about NYS, Parkways, no commercial vehicles permitted at all and none allowed in the left lane on Expressways.

Think they're bad? Watch the ones hauling the shipping containers - short distance from one yard to another. They're probably paid per trip, haven't seen one yet that didn't drive like their ass was on fire.

Some of the heaviest trucks on the road. Especially the 20' cans. We smooshed a car with one years ago, rolled over on top of it. Surprisingly none of the people in the car were injured.

I don't think he is talking about high end Automobile moving companies like Reliable, Mayflower, or United van lines, I think he means the bat chit crazy open hauler drivers, that terrorize the roads and tailgate until you get out of their way.
Ohio just passed a bill that will raise the speed limit for all trucks, cars, and busses to 75 mph in rural areas on closed access highways.......this means that trucks will be running 80+. |

It's just a senate proposal now. If passed it only applies to vehicles of 8000 pounds or less. No matter, trucks governed at 65 will still block up the passing lane for miles and miles trying to get past one governed at 64.5.

I took great pleasure in flashing headlights at one of those this morning: An ESTES tandem trying to elephant race another tandem on I-20. After 3 miles, he finally cleared and then just sat there in the left lane. After the high beam flash, he moved over, which surprised the **** out of me.

Yup but it's one thing if you are in a 3000 lb car, another story if you have 60 feet of serious tonnage

Probably. I would have thought the slower truck would have done that. Heck, I even do it when I'm towing a car.
