Broken steering rack mount fix?
I was wondering If I could fix the steering rack mount with durafix? I have the piece that broke off I just don't know how safe it would be. The dura fix looks like it would be strong enough. Any thoughts?
Dura Fix Aluminum Welding Aluminum Brazing Aluminum Soldering & Repair Rod is not sold on Ebay US or Amazon http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps8c5ckipo.jpg |
Are you nucking futs?

Any attempted fix for that is pure insanity .
|
It's only the steering rack...what could be the harm in trying?
|
Thats what I thought. Just another parts to add to the scrap pile.

The only way I can think of fixing that would be to have an aluminum weld built up, ground, drilled & tapped. You can probably find a used rack for a decent price, do a rebuild and be ahead of the game.

Besides cutting/reinforcing/drill through/gluing/wrapping the entire attachment point (with something much heavier than hose clamps).....

Nothing s little jb weld and duct tape can't fix.

If you can fix that you might win an award.....a Darwin Award....

I bet the durafix rod use would fix the issue - and like a good weld - will be stronger than the surrounding metal. I have seen demos of the product, and have actually used it to fix a broken mounting tab on woodworking bandsaw table. Having said that, I would not use it for such an application as a steering rack.

what happened? That's a weird one?

Good, rebuilt units are cheap. If they are still out of you price range - try good used.
