Isn't it ironic? Uber is a
German word.

ps. Beware the algorithm, during busy times rush hour it can surge to $6 per mile or more, then a yella cab gets to be attractive again..

BTW: That NYC cop yelling at the Uber driver is just pissed off that a guy who arrived in this country i2 years ago is making 5 grand a month..

Vancouver has something like 20% of the number of cabs required for a city of our size maybe less. The guys complaining about Uber have a vested interest in the status quo and don't give a rats azz about riders.

I call it the taxi mafia. Trying to get a cab when you really need one is a joke in my city.

+1! eff 'em!

Living near a major airport I really should consider doing the occasional run. I could easily get people in and out of O'Hare on my off time.

Generally speaking, Uber and other ride-sharing vehicles are not allowed to pick up at airports, (they lack the proper permits). They can drop-off, just not pick up. This recently changed, (like last week), at John Wayne airport in Orange Co., CA. but this was the first major airport to allow Uber to pick up passengers, if not mistaken.

I'd be surprised if anyone is clearing $5k a month driving UberX in NYC but even so, with average rent on a 1BR apt @ $3500 a month, it would not go far. :)

Uber continues to screw their drivers by lowering rates to gain market share in most cities, their dirtiest tactic is to finance a new car for drivers, basically tying them to the company and the job for years even as they change the pay structure or otherwise make the job less appealing by signing up hundreds of new drivers when business does not warrant it, etc. And why not? The company has next to zero investment in the infrastructure and even less in the worker's well-being. It's an absolutely brilliant business invention but equally cut-throat in its execution.
