Some Parents...Urggg

Not sure if you have seen these new little dirt bikes that the real young kids are driving but they really get out there! Gas operated but zippy as all get out.

I was walking the dogs today and a kid no more then 7 whizzed by. At first I thought "dang, wish they had those when I was a kid..." but I noticed he wasn't wearing a helmet. Well, I can say that I never wore one either when I was young but then again I was a bit older too. A few seconds later Dad goes flying by on one and he has a boy on his lap that was the better part of 4. No one wore a helmet. Dad was zipping at a really good pace.

I hope I don't come off as a grumpy ol man but it would not take much to send them azz over tea kettle. Bikes are a blasty but if your gonna ride, do so safely and not with a 4 year old on your lap.

Tell 'Em mike!!!

We have neighbors with boys about the same age as ours. They almost never make their kids wear helmets on their bicycles, which makes it that much harder to get our boys to wear theirs! Some people just don't seem to have a dman clue

Were's a cop when you need one?

People are just plain stupid and that's why we have so many ridiculous laws. We always dumb down to the lowest in society.

------------------

And proof of how dangerous this can be.

A local couple killed their 4 year old daughter on one of these.
The forced her to keep ridding until the inevitable happened.

Couple jailed over 4yo's death from backyard motorbike crashes - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

"Chloe weighed 17 kilograms at the time of her death, the bike weighed over 50 kilograms,
nevertheless that did not stop you from forcing Chloe to get on that motorbike on multiple occasions in the three days leading up to her death."

Same situation here ... our son is fighting us to let him ride to school without helmet. No way.
But all those kids with cool hairstyle and no helmet makes it very hard.

(This situation is related in many other areas, phones, free internet and stuff.)

Seems like the more we provide the kids the more we ruin them.

What really grinds my gear is when parents turn their kids loose at swap meets on those things, in order to give them something to do.

Those things can be fun, but because of idiots like these guys they will probably go the way of the three-wheeled ATV.

It's one thing to have a 12 year old on a dirt bike but a 7 year old with the ability to chase at 25mph is unsafe. Without a skull cap is stupid.

True but apparently consumption is good for the economy.

Certainly stupid but the fact that we have to have helmet laws in the first place says a lot about people.
And how many bikers don't wear them? And why? Because it's uncool???

Right now in Aus there's a national debate about immunizing kids so idiots post crap like this on Facebook.
These same idiots ignore the fact that immunization has saved countless lives around the globe. They must be OK with lots of Pink and light blue coffins.

You would think so, but it does not seem to work out that way.

I confronted a lady who had a little kid on rollerblades without any safety gear. I suggested she go check out the neuro ICU at one of the local hospitals to see how that is liable to play out. She got all offended.

Until my kids are old enough to make those decisions they will wear helmets on their bikes, both pedal and motorized, so that when they are old enough to make that decision they have enough brain left to make an informed decision. Having grown up riding dirt bikes I can only imagine what would be left of what brain I have had I not had a helmet on for some of the spills I had. It is hard enough on the rest of the body.

I gotta admit I wore a helmet when I used to race motorcycles off-road, but I felt kinda wimpish doing it
