Crank turned on lifting car
I looked at an 80 SC today, car has sat for 2 years, upon jacking it up under the engine, as the car rose up, the crank pulley turned a good 1/8 to 1/4 revolution.
Probably a dumb question, why would it do that? |
I would bet all the oil has drained into the case and when you jacked up the car and it was at an angle the oil moved forward and caused the hydraulic effect to take over and move some of the pistons. I bet if you open the case cover you will get all the oil out.
If it were me, I'd level it, remove all the spark plugs and after the drainage stops, put in some new oil and rotate it by hand in the normal direction to pump any oil that has gotten past the rings out the plug holes. I remember John at Black Forest in San Diego telling me that race cars that sit a long time will fill with oil and they have to "flush" it before trying to start it. |
It's just anxious to get going again.

In gear, rear wheels moved? Axles moved when they drooped?
|
Thanks John. Yes, rear wheels moved, it was in gear.

Ghost. Did you find out what happened to the previous owner, and was he in the driver's seat at the time. Factor this into your offer price :D
