Got a ticket yesterday. worth fighting it? ideas??
well, sooner or later it had to happen......I was double parked for about 3 mintues with flashers on while I was inside a restaurant ordering take-out....as I walk out to my car, there's a cop standing behind my 911 filling out a ticket...My first gut feeling was
"What the ffuk are you doing, asshoo? That's my 911, why dont you go after some real criminals" But I kept cool... me: "good evening officer, are you writing me a ticket?" officer: "yes I am" a few moments later, officer says: "can you please step inside your vehicle?" I did as he told me....1/2 minute later, he walks over to the window and hands me the ticket. It was $20 for parking more than 1 foot away from curb. is this worth fighting? what's my story for appeal? Was it against the law to stand there next to him while he was filling out the ticket? thanks.. Last edited by tight as a bull's ass; 10-31-2002 at 03:42 PM.. |

Would never cost less than $20 to fight it. Just consider it a tiny addition to your annual tax bill.

Don't feel bad, I got a ticket the day I picked up my wife and new born Baby from the hospital.
![]() I was parked in the traffic circle out front, which is for loading and unloading passengers. I went inside the hospital to pick up my two passengers. When I came back outside, I see a Parking enforcement officer writing someone a ticket. Hmm, now that she is finished writing the ticket, why is she standing next to my car, she patiently waited for me to load the flowers, my wifes bag and while I got the car seat and new baby in the truck. She even waited while I strapped my 2yr old into the other seat. ![]() The kicker, as some of you know I'm a police officer, she worked for the same department as me. Yes, I took the ticket, enjoyed the rest of the day with my newly expanded family and paid it when it came in the mail. Life's to short to sweat the small stuff.

suburb...that sounds like a tough one, unless you are a resident and can play the local game..you will probably be asked to go before the judge for your "not guilty" plea..the judge will wait it out while you speak..and then reduce it to $10..if you got a friend that's legally disabled, and will go to court with you, and he explains his problem, the judge will set you free and tell your friend not to forget to carry his "disability" blue car tag with him..there is a speeding ticket game to play in the suburbs also..this court stuff can become a necessary game to learn.....Ron

I don't understand what you want to fight. You said you were "double parked" and got tagged for it. It's illegal to double park so whats' to fight?? I can't figure why people double park, most drivers find a legal place to park, even though they might have to walk. Usually when people double park they have someone else blocked in.
He wanted you in your car, so he could keep you in his sight, but not be threatened by you, should you have been be a "bad guy" Not easy for the cops to tell the good guys from the gun toting bad boys. It's just a parking violation (in Calif.) so I would save your energy, as far as fighting the ticket. Just my .02 cents worth and you did ask ![]()

I'm with N11Porsche. What's to argue? You admit to double parking. Eat the ticket and quit double parking.
I'm not bothered by speeding and other infractions that don't endanger or inconvenience others, but if you double park and block ME in, I'll hope your fine is more than $20.

Hmmm. If while you were double parked for only a few minutes, your 911 had been rear ended by a drunk with no license & no insurance? $20 wouldn't be worth fighting over, I'd think... Now, if the fine were $25...might be another story? Excuse me if I find this amusing...but I don't think a parking ticket is considered a "moving violation". No points on a license, no increase of insurance premiums. I'd pay the $ and forget it. BTW, my wife has a "disabled parking" window hanger. I can't count the number of times she's told me not to use it. Because she felt good that day, which is relative, didn't want to take space somebody who "needed" the parking could use. Guess you gotta be there to understand why. Sorry Ron. Hope we're friends enough to disagree on this, and still be friends.

haven't gotten a ticket in over a 5 years so I didnt know that...but thanks for the info. 20 bucks is 20 bucks, just pay it and forget it....seems like the simple thing to do. |

That is so funny...the other day my wife and I were in a restaurant enjoying our meal. When we were done we paid the bill and left so that we could pick up our daughter from her dance class and did not want to be late. When we got outside we found our car blocked in by a 911 with the flashers on!
(my first response was: "What the ffuk are you doing, asshoo" ) We were quite upset because we didn't have any idea where this driver was and no idea when he / she would be back. We were very concerned that we would be late for our daughter. So, we called the police and had them send a car by. The police officer promptly, (and rightly) ticketed the 911. ![]() These kinds of posts really confuse me. <--- he says...still on soap box..... It seems like the same kind of mentality that makes a woman sue McDonalds because SHE scalded herself with hot coffee, or some fat guy sue McDonalds and Wendy's for making him fat, or the newest one: the gambler that is suing the casino for his gambling habit ruining him. Now, tight as a bull's ass, take responsibilty, pay the $20 bucks and stop whining...... you did ask! ![]() |

78silversc,
Just for the record, I was double-parked for 2 minutes...the restaurant was right there and I was looking out the window every few seconds just to make sure I wasn't blocking anyone who wanted to leave. Now that's responsible double-parking. You gotta problem with that? ![]() Thank you. |

I'm on a slow ride doing 55 in a 55 limit..I get into a curve as the Valentine screams..the limit dropped to 30 on a down hill into some hick town..I have to slam on the brakes to stay legal..the guy gets pissed..follows me a few moments later at night..I was looking for him to do that...I pull over and park the car..he passes me giving me the eyeball..I'm not questioning right and wrong..I just want to know what game we're playing...hope I didn't confuse anyone.. LOL ................Ron

tight,
ahhhhh.... r e s p o n s i b l e double parking! ![]() Then....nevermind! I appreciate your good nature about the ribbing. It is not such a big deal that I need to get back on my soap box and start ranting about it, just a personal thing about responsibilty I guess.....plus I am afraid of heights! ![]() But, I have to say....I still don't get it. |

There is no such thing as "responsible double parking"! It is flat out wrong. Why should traffic have to change lanes to get around your car because you are too lazy to walk a block or two? Your time is no more valuable than other folks' time. It is just a matter of "me first".
- I would put this type of behavior into the same class as line cutting. Around our WashDC beltway and other byways, we endure long lines at some of the exits. Yet, some folks believe their time is more valuable, or that rules and courtesy don't apply to them. They drive all the way to the head of the line and then cut in, expecting others to yield to them. Of course, this just causes further delays for those of us waiting patiently for our turn to exit. So pay your fine and quit complaining. You broke the law and you were discourteous to other drivers. You deserve it! Chuck |
