I think some folks have some of the stats mixed and matched to make things seem more exciting, and those mixed and matched stats are getting passed around.
This is talking about the 1st gen. Quote:

Some decently quick cars, but no rocketships.

Official Toyota UK website lists 0-60 for the third series MR2 as 7.9 seconds. Kerb weight 996 Kg initially, kept creeping up as they added chassis stiffeners twice in its production run.
MGF VVC and MG TF 160 blew it into the weeds on accelaration(but not on durability) .The 182 bhp tubo version was a dealer fit option in the last years of production , but I've never seen one. Too slow in the 1400-2000cc class in Autosolos in the UK, where most hot hatches in the class have over 170 BHP and are not much heavier at all(Renaultsport Clio 172 or 182, Peugeot 206 GT) and the MX5s appear by placings to outhandle it.(the Mazda always outnumbers all other entries anyway) |
I've always wanted an MR2...I like small and spunky cars.
Presently have a Fiat Abarth, owned two Renault R5 T2s, and a Renault Alpine. Anyone have opinions on a good MR2 forum? Thanks. |
