Best Ice Cream ever! Jeni's

If you really, REALLY like ice cream, and you aren't afraid to pay too much for some really good ice cream, man this stuff (Jeni's Ice Cream) is tasty.

I've had lots of different kinds of ice cream, although I'm sure there are some here who are much more widely experienced aficionados than I.

I like plain flavors and the types that have a lot going on. I could easily eat a pint of Blue Bell ice cream daily until it killed me which I'm sure would happen.

Recently, I tried some of this stuff. They have some VERY tasty flavors.

Our Ice Cream | Three Twins Ice Cream

Some of their ice cream is very, silky smooth and creamy, and some is more crystalline. I think it is specific to the flavorings. Their "Dad's Cardamom" is very tasty, but not super smooth. Their Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup and Bittersweet Chocolate are very tasting and very smooth and creamy.

Then, this was on sale from $12/pint down to $10. Our local store has a few flavors. Their flavor and textures are outstanding. They are very smooth and creamy. Our 3 favorites from what we have seen are "Dark Chocolate" (easily the darkest, most chocolatey ice cream I've ever had), Ndali Estate Vanilla Bean (It's surprisingly tasty considering it's just vanilla), and last but certainly not least Wildberry Lavender (I'd have never considered flower flavored ice cream, but wow, this stuff has knocked my socks off). I suppose it's good that it's ridiculously expensive, because it keeps me from eating it very often. There are some seriously tasty sounding flavors in the list, but I've only seen/had about 5. All 5 were good, but the three above are on the next level.

OMG !! That sounds so good! Ice cream is one of my very favorites. I have to restrain myself from eating too much, too often. Years ago I made ice cream every once in a while. Then I discovered I had high cholesterol and stopped. I can't remember the exact recipe, but it had around ten cups of sugar, ten or twelve egg yolks, and called for something like half a gallon of heavy cream. I toned the cream down by using half & half. It was the heated custard type. I made vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana nut, & one or two other flavors. It was great, but killer stuff. I'd like to try some of those flavors but can't think about eating it like I did.

We get 1/2 gallons of homeade ice cream from a local catering company that also has a retail seasonal stand somewhat like Dairy Queen, but the ice cream is so much better than that softserve crap and harkens memories of Summer picnics at Grandma's house. It tastes identical but is packed a little tighter than fresh homeade IC....it even has the little milk crystals, and it's only $5 for 1/2 gallon.

Absolutely awsome with fresh cut strawberries and shortcake.

When in Portland try Salt & Straw. Some of the flavors are very odd sounding. Some won't be your thing. However, some will rock your world.

Jeni's is indeed good stuff. Of course, I'm biased, they're based 2 miles away ;)

What store is carrying this stuff in Houston?
Thanks for the heads up.

Will have to check it out. It is hard to find ice cream that isn't full of HFCS or fat free. What kind of idiot thinks fat free is ice cream?

Whole Foods, and according to the Jeni's website, there are a couple of other stores too, I can't remember for sure, Central Market or Fresh Market, and I think the Target Super Centers.

Holy carp! I had no idea!

Blue Bell Ice Cream recalls all products over listeria risk

No blue Bell anywhere right now, I guess.

Jeni's is all being recalled also.

Has anyone tried the Sub Zero ice cream shops? They have one in our local mall, they mix a cream, flavor and mixi ins, then using liquid nitrogen, it hardens up into ice cream- I think it's the smoothest ice cream I've ever had.

I've heard of those, but never seen one.

Frozen custard all around here. Very smooth and creamy. Never had it before moving to the Milwaukee area.

I haven't had the HD vanilla, but there's something about their Chocolate that I don't like. Something about the texture is odd to me.

Three Twins Madagascar Vanilla

Organic milk, organic cream, organic evaporated cane juice, organic egg yolks, organic nonfat milk, organic vanilla extract.

Jeni's Vanilla

Wow, what's that tapioca starch doing in there?

I eat at least 3 pints of ice cream a week. Tonight was HD Cherry Vanilla.

HD used to have Honey Vanilla over 25 years ago. It came back a few years ago for a short run. It's been long gone.

it was sublime.

HD went to 14 oz "pints" and started injecting air into there ice cream. I only buy them when on sale for $2.99. I talked with the director of marketing 2 years ago and she said it was necessary to maintain the quality.

Graeter's is truly excellent ice cream and well worth the price and shipping cost. Or when getting some from a very gracious friend. :)

I'll have to look into Jeni's, a high end local cheese shop sells it.
