Wwpd?

What would Pelicans do? I was going to Wyoming for the weekend and trading my car in on Monday. Now, it looks like I'll have to argue with insurance companies and deal with getting rear ended. No new-to-me car

Would you guys renogotiate w/the dealer, forget about my new to me car or?

Fun weekend.

My car did fairly well,

His car,

Funny tidbit, the cop ask me if it was ok if he didn't write it up, that we could just exchange info...I asked how the insurance companies would know blame, etc.

Your car did much better, if he has insurance, make sure you get it fixed right, no half assed stuff. Carfax will show that your car was in an accident and it will reduce the value of your car no matter what, so show it was fixed by an authorized BMW repair shop.

My friend said that I should look into diminished valued. I am fairly bummed out, mentally this car wasn't mine anymore.

Unless he gets it fixed and drives straight from the body shop to trade it in.

Or sell private and hope the diff makes up for some of the diminished value.

Why not talk with the dealer that was ready to do the deal to see how it would impact the numbers? He can get it repaired for cost, so may be no big deal. Worth a conversation, no?

Choc, those are my intentions....I'm packed now and heading north for the weekend but will call from the road. My car, from the beginning of the deal, meant a back of the lot deal for them...now it becomes a wholesale deal so the numbers will not work out, or so I think.

Thanks for the advice, will definitely follow.

I'm amazed at how your car beat up that XTerra!

Seems like funny business with the cop. Lazy cop who doesn't do an accident report could leave you up the creek with the other guy's insurance company....

Take it to the dealer, trade the car in, let them work out the details. Life's too short for this hassle and relatively modest gain. Make it "not your problem."

So, you're humpty. Why don't you just get it repaired then trade it? Or, did you back into him and you have a deductible?

Must it go, NOW? Wait a week, get it fixed, if finances permit.

It really is this simple- Off the road for a week, someone else pays for the repair + rental. Unless, there is another underlying reason.

Trade it wrecked, you still get the insurance check.
Dealers have dealt with this before.

Dantilla 04-24-2015 07:12 AM

Dealer may prefer to fix it themselves, and not report the damage to Carfax.

70SATMan 04-24-2015 07:25 AM

Get estimates to fix from a very reputable repair shop. Pocket the check from the Guy's insurance company. Negotiate a lower number with the dealer for the trade in.

Like Angela, I wouldn't bother with facilitating a repair. The dealer will repair at their lower cost, not report to Carfax and everybody's happy.

Called the dealer but my connection there isn't working. I'd love to just trade in without having to deal with body shop/rental car. I had a chance to look at the damage and its next to zero, body guy may pick up more.

Thanks for the input, im so ready for a summer time convertible.

If the bumper cover isn't cracked, a lot of guys heat them with a heat gun and pop them back out.
