I think it is a British car. 1950's and possibly a Hillman.

HardDrive 04-26-2015 09:54 AM

Late 40s. I second Plymouth.

mikesride 04-26-2015 09:55 AM

I was guessing 52 if the doors are push button but can't really tell.

Awful sluggard of a car when new. According to my garage owner dad Rootes Group made their money from the sale(frequent) of comparatively expensive spare parts

Nickshu 04-27-2015 03:24 AM

I'm sure that's not rusty at all.

I used to ride around in my garage owner's dad's Hillman California(n) back in the 1950's in the Scarborough area not far from where you live now. I agree with you it was a sluggard. Speaking of sluggards most of the cars he sold were sluggards such as Austin A30, Morris Minor etc. Slightly peppier ones were the Sunbeam Talbot and Wolseley 1500.
Prior to that was a Vauxhall I remember. Maybe late 1940's or early 1950's and of course no seat belts. There were hanging leather cords on each side over the back bench seat and on rough roads you used to have to hang onto one to keep yourself planted.
