finally saw one...

i finally saw a real life barn find.... a 1968 911L.
didn't have my camera, so no proof that it really happened, but you can trust me.
nothing really special, sad to say... asking 30k, didn't make any kind of counteroffer.
i did ask about the can-can red seats though, just in case. no idea of what i would do with them, but they sure were pretty.
there was also a '75 dodge challenger that looked like it would be a lot of fun for way less money.

How far from your current location? East or west? We should do a tour drive soon.

Cool, right in the backyard.

Just did an oil change yesterday. I'm ready.

Last year of production for the Dodge Challenger was 1974
I LOVE those cars 1970-1974

I found a few barn finds around 10 or 15 years ago. Late 60's 912 in rather poor shape with a bug motor sitting next to the empty engine compartment. He wanted $12k. A 1967 light blue Mustang convertible with a massive 6cyl. It had the rare mondo bondo and duct tape top combo. He wanted $15k for that one. A 1971 Mustang Mach 1 with the interior delete option... $20k. And the cream of the crop, a 1980 Jag with all 12 plugs removed from the motor and locked up tighter than a drum. That little British gem could be had for the low low price of $25k.

Total nut with no idea on what his cars were worth.

He was just ahead of his time on the 912. The rest, junk.

I think I was getting the "it's really nice talking to you about my collection of random oddball things but...my stuff is my stuff" price.

Barn finds none the less. Never have found one "barn find" where the collector either had an established basis in reality or knowledge of the current market prices for their things. Still have fun looking at them though.

I found a nice 1950s Coke bottle buried in the dirt in my old barn once! Nice bottle, worth about $5.00 at the time. Gave it to a collector friend.

I need to go out with yall, much more interesting stuff!

Usually barn finds only happen when the original owner dies and his family is selling off all the old junk. If you have seen the TV show "American Pickers" you know that most people want to hold on to thier junk and charge insane prices, if they are willing to sell at all. I can't imagine living in hoarder sqauler at 70 years old when all I need to do is to sell a few gems for thier actual worth.

My 69 spent 16 years in a wood shed. It was a shed that the owners dad stored wood in. The dad was a carpenter.
