I think that is the problem with autos. As soon as you let off throttle, they upshift and then when you get back on, they have to downshift again. At least the ones I've driven. I no longer have an auto car, and the wifes prius is a CVT which is something else entirely.

The 1984 Cut V I drive, will modify shift points based on how much right foot I have.

The thing that annoys me about older auto's, I want open throttle, and as short as shift points as reasonable. Newer cars with drive by wire, do this in the background for you, older ones, nope.

I like the new CVT transmissions. They got a bit of bad press when they first came out but the Toyota Corolla ones at least are excellent.

If you are light on the gas they sit around 1,500rpm and if you floor it, it sits around 6,500rpm until you back it off.
