Suggestions for work on a 968 in the LA area?

I know this is OT but lots of folks come here so...

~~~~~
Friend of mine just bought a 968 in Texas and has now driven it to the LA area. He will be in that area for a week or so then I believe he will ship the car home to Germany.
First off he needs a new windshield and sadly he went to the Porsche dealership where they quoted him about $1000 plus tax for the glass and labor, but then they have to order it from Germany.
Any ideas on this?
Then he has some misc mechanical stuff that needs doing and he knows no one there. Any suggestions?
Thx,
Joe A
LA is a large area. Where is the car located? That makes all the difference.
Safelite will replace that windshield for under $500.
Craig,
He is in the Santa Monica, Bev Hills area but can travel a bit. Is just visiting then returns to Germany next week.
So you think that Safelite would have that windshield?
Thx,
Joe A
Craig, don't be so sure on the windshield. The 968 is a pretty rare bird. I know if you can track down a windshield for a late 944 the glass alone is more than 500 because of the integrated antenna. I know they did away with the antenna for the 968, but it's still a pretty small production run car. He might be better off waiting until he gets back to Germany to fix the windshield.
I just went on the Safelite website, entered my zip code, 1995 Porsche 968, green tint. It comes up available for $246.99 and can be installed on Saturday.
Guys close to BH/SM who I trust and have enough experience with 968's to work on the car:
TRE, Van Nuys - Dave or Jeremy
TLG, No Hollywood - Tony or Marco Garace
Speed Gallery, No Hollywood - Dan Aspesi
That Safelite windshield will be a poorly fitting Chinese knockoff.
The Sekurit windshield is the Porsche $1000 one quoted...steep but it fits correctly.
I have had Safelite put windshields in my race car for years (at least 10). Also my Cayenne, 997, and recently the 911 hot rod. I'm sure it is a Chinese knockoff, but I've never had a problem with fit or durability. At 1/4 the price…who cares anyway. Replace it three times and you're still ahead.
All of these are capable shops that can handle 968 repairs. A useful reference guide when in foreign territory and need qualified Porsche repairs.
For windshields/glass I use Above All Glass in Thousand Oaks. They do a lot of Porsche and hotrod work and are the glass sub for TLG, Esposito and various other shops around the area. They'll do either OE/OEM or aftermarket depending on what you want and what's available. Great guys to deal with.
Well it now turns out that the repop windshield is not TUV legal so not allowed in Germany.
Then the Porsche dealership in Beverly Hills who offered to buy the car from him "as is, where is" for $7500 backed down on their offer when he returned two days later saying "We are doing inventory and cannot do it right now" so its looking like he may store the car for a year then use it when he returns in 2016...
If it's a clean 968 he should be able to get 10j for t quick with no hassle. Hell if I had the cash is give him the 7500 sight unseen. Those cars are going up in value quick.
