Almost Got A Speeding Ticket !

So yesterday morning I’m on my way to work, I decided to take Bouquet Cyn.
Half way down the cyn all was good, then I came up upon a slow moving pick-up.
This guy would not move over for anything. He passed all the vehicle turn-outs that were there.

At the end of the cyn, on the first straight-away I down shifted and passed him. :D
As I’m flying passed the truck, who do I see… a CHP motor cop with his radar pointed right at me.

I knew I was busted. In my mirror I saw him putting his radar back in its place and he starting up his bike ready for a pursuit.

Now because there were a line of cars behind this truck the cop had to wait to let them pass (he was on the opposite side of the road).

I knew he was going to pull me over, there was no point in pretending or thinking, “maybe he’ll pull someone else over”, I was going to be the lucky one.

So what I did, was just pull over. I turned off the car, rolled down the windows and pulled out my driver’s license, proof of insurance and car registration.

He walked up to the window and asked for my information.
He walked back to his bike, wrote down something on a pad of paper and came back to my car.
He handed all the info back to me and said…

Cop: Do you know the speed limit on this street?
Me: 55?
Cop: yes it is. Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: No
Cop: I clocked you at almost 80.
Me: Wow, I didn’t realize how fast I was going.
Cop: I’m going to let you off with a warning.
Me: Umm, ok.

I'm thinking that instead of making him chase me down, and I pulled over before he even had a chance to put his lights on maybe he decided to give me a break. :p

Or maybe he owns a P-car. :D Who knows??

Whatever the reason, it's great that you received a warning.

You got lucky. I got my first ticket under nearly that same circumstance. On Hwy 46 between 5 and 101, heading to SLO. Caught behind a tanker truck that couldn't pull 35mph up the hills. I caught an opening on a straight away, downshift to 2nd, hammer down. rowing through the gears, was at 85 when I cleared him and CHP crown vic popped over the upcoming crest. saw his lights come on before he even got passed me. I pulled over and waited for him to get turned around. He came up to the car (Mustang), "Do you know how fast you were going?" "Not exactly, I just wanted to minimize my time in oncoming traffic to get around a truck going 35." (sounded logical to me). "Here's your ticket."

balls.

Glad you lucked out.

The police like it when they don't have to chase you. I wasn't so lucky a couple of times, though. I still got the ticket but the officers were nice about it.

I think a lot of us have had a situation like yours. I have and just pulled over.
Was chewed out pretty good. Guess I deserved it.

With my passing around the slow vehicles, I got clocked doing 96 after slowing down to resume
normal speed.
His option was to arrest me and impound the car (AC Cobra).
I was very, very lucky and took the major ass chewing without a ticket.

In the other post, I have driven the I5 to 101 many times going pretty fast.
James Dean lost his life in a Porsche on that stretch.
Don't drive fast on public roads anymore.

My best friend is a CHP officer. He told me anytime they ask how fast you were going always say the speed limit. He said he only ask that because he didn't get it on radar and if it's a 55 mph zone and you reply 60 or 65, you just admitted to speeding. Case closed.

Be careful in Bouquet. Water can run over the road, deer, rocks, pets, livestock ... I've seen it all ... not the place to go fast IMHO. I am impressed you got off with a warning. They are ice cold tax collectors every time I or a family member have had the pleasure. I have also noticed that they are getting good at doing their paperwork, trial letters and even showing up at court.

Aigel, I'm aware of the obstacles that can appear in Bouguet. When driving through the cyn I'm not trying to break any kind of speed records, I'm just cruising through. I just got frustrated with the driver of the pick up, he was going very slow and didn't have the courtesy to pull over and others pass.

Thanks for the tip Sleepy.
