It's OK to hit your smack your child in the head....

Sorry - Should read It's OK to smack your child in the head. Ooops!

This police officer says so....

Violence begets violence.

We gardener-types like to soften the rhetoric by chanting to ourselves, 'Violas begets violas'.

It's a prettier concept to behold.

I don't think I'd try that with my kid. He's 28, got 4" on height on me, probably 50 lbs and carries a gun for a living.

My point is that they would be arresting HER in a different situation. That is partially how we find ourselves in this situation.

You're right. The law should be applied equally and without bias.

But watching that video... That lady was really upset with her son and his actions.
Sure she was emotional but that kid would never doubt his mothers love.

A lot of good hardworking people would be embarrassed at what's going on in Baltimore right now.
There's no simple answer.

While he doesn't have height or weight on me, my oldest son is an incredibly fit 29 and holds a fourth degree MCMAP black belt. My 24 year old middle son is just as fit as his brother, is quite a bit taller than I am and holds a second degree. Yet neither of them would want their old man around if they were involved in something that might bring harm to innocent people or their property. It doesn't matter that each could handle me now (just as the kid in the video could whoop his mom's arse if came down to it). The point is there's something about a justly pissed off parent ...

We need more involved Mothers like her. That kid deserved every smack he got, I just wish the rest of the rioting youth had an involved parent that was kicking azz and taking names.

I'm thinking the kid was shocked by his mother. His ninja garb was not simply dug out of the closet for this one riotous occasion.

My guess is he's been running around unattended for quite a while with momma letting the village raise her baby.

Were I a cynical SOB, I would think mother's outburst was as much for show as anything else. But since I am not, I won't. That poor boy is in for a world of ridicule by the peers who recognize him. Instead of looking for some action he's angry now, too.

His momma can get away with disrespecting him but nobody else will. Snoop Dog, Kanye and Fiddy Cent tole him so.

Notice how he didnt even try to raise his hand up against his mother?
Shows that there is some respect there.

He could be a straight A student who just got wrapped up in the whole situation, or a typical street thug. We will never know from one 30 second video. But what is clear is that momma does have some influence over him. Hope she uses that power for good.

If she hadn't failed as a parent up until present time, she wouldn't have had to hit her kid as she did...

Our country is in the Crapper!

Makes me happy to live 10 miles out in the country away from the nearest big town of 40,000 people. I can't imagine the stress and aggrevation of living in the hood like i'm sure some of the riotous youth do. They have a lot of fustrations built up just looking for an outlet to display thier anger.

This sounds good. And for those parents out there who have not experienced up close and personal a "problem child", I guess it is as simple as it sounds.

But every now and then there is a child who is different, and the best parent won't be able "set his mind right".

How many times do you see it where the same parents end up with a good, normal child, and one or two that are "difficult". Same parents. So it is not always the lack of a parents intent and effort, though I believe most often it is.

They didn't have any anger youth 40, 50 years ago not even during the depression days? Noticed they didn't do such things back? Someone mention the earthquake in Kobe, Japan. No one looted, broke windows or destroyed anything. Don't tell me there were no angry, stress, and aggravated Japanese youth living in Kobe.

I am for mom setting her kid straight. Let him have another it need be. Kicking ass is a great way to get this young man's attention.

I'm not following you. Sure, if the kid was smaller than her or she had a weapon or was drunk or drugged, she ought to be arrested. But I see no problem with smacking a kid who is as big as you with your bare hands.

How do you know - your kids never messed up once? Maybe she has 2 other kids at Loyola. You are assuming a lot from a 30 second video....

Once kids are in school...other people have as much or more waking time each day to influence them than you...and peer pressure and free choice. It is really hard to parent.
