Top gear and its replacement

I heard from friends in Europe (who read german) that one the one hand, the BBC was hiring 3 new stars for Top Gear, including Jodie Kidd (easy on the eyes and can drive!) and 2 blokes I never heard of... On the other hand, a deal has supposedly been reached (with ITV?) for a new show to be called " Clarkson, hammond and May".

Take it with the usual grain of salt.

I saw that recently on Yahoo news. I will probably watch just to see if it is any good. It will be hard to capture the vibe the old hosts had. I understand the young motorcycle chap may need subtitles to be understood...

Don't think we will get to see the old cast here in the USA unless/until their show on ITV is picked up by another network or Netflix.

Guy Martin is a hot commodity right now. If he seriously gives it an effort, he can be easily understood. But he has Aspergers or something like that and is prone to going off on unintelligible tangents :)

"Streaming service Netflix may also be a potential home for the former “Top Gear” team, according to media reports."

Fingers crossed this works out!

Part of what made Top Gear so good was the big budget production values that the BBC lavished on the show. I wonder if the money will be there for any new show featuring Clarkson, Hammond and May?

i would say yes, considering their potential draw. At least for the first 2 Seasons while we all see how they do without the BBC umbrella/straitjacket.

I will be more inclined to watch the new Clarkson/Hammond/May outing then the "new" Top Gear UK--although I do like Guy--his Isle of Mann announcing is entertaining. Unfortunately for the BBC--anything other than Clarkson/Hammond/May on Top Gear is subpar--i.e. Top Gear AUS. and esp UGH Top Gear US--outright rubbish

Top Gear was mildly entertaining. I guess car guys are so desperate for any car content that they'll put up with dumb stunts.

My thoughts as well. I only ever watched about 6-8 episodes, but never really found it that entertaining. The one where JC tried to drive the 3 wheeled car around was good for a laugh. I never could understand how they always tested cars on a friggen wet track for their lap board. What good is that? IMHO, it won't be hard to top.

You're selling it too short. It had many moments of brilliance with a lot of filler. But the brilliance quotient had been dipping rapidly over the last 3 - 4 years. It is an entertainment show that involves cars. It is not a car show.

I never knew Guy Martin was a TV presenter now. I've heard his interviews at the IOM after racing and never thought he could be a TV presenter- can't understand a word but I like him. :)

Jodie Kidd? ugh. She is the sole reason I stopped watching The Classic Car Show She is a horrible presenter.

I never thought she was particularly attractive even in her younger days,

London is much like Seattle...if you're waiting for the rain to stop to do something, expect it won't get done.

Well, if this is the new line up, I wonder if they are spreading the future risk of ever getting rid of any one presenter?

If I were to pick three from that lineup it would be (in no particular order)
Sabine
Chris Harris
Mat Leblanc

I can imagine the dynamic between the three.

Harris being Harris, Matt Leblanc given him "the look" then smacking Harris for being a "yob" (or some such british word) then Sabine spanking both the boys (on the track I mean).

Sounds like this could be entertaining!

As long as they ask me to be The Stig, I don't care who else is in front of the cameras.

What a great gig. Get to drive all-out in lotsa cool cars, no dialog necessary.

I never realize that Eddie Jordan is Jackie Stewart-sized!
