SF Before the 1906 Quake
don't know how many have seen this. Found it again just searching YouTube for something. Apparently taken about a month before the 1906 quake.

I don't think that sound is legit, but it's cool anyway!

The plot kind of drags a little but very cool. Thanks for posting! :)

I think this stuff is fascinating. I am such a geek I looked at the second "after" pic at the end of the video after the town had burnt, and tried to line it up with a "before" picture as the trolley was going down the street. I used the size of the tower at the end of the street and a triple lamp post as a guide, because many of the lamps were single, and could find two triple lamps in the video but neither seemed to line up.
Oh well... |

I think the film is legit, more or less as I do not know any different. However I do think that they rounded up every Motor Car in the city to be in the film. Motor Cars in 06 were still a novelty and the city would want to show how hip and prosperous they were by showing that they had many of them be bopping around town. If you notice it seems like the same ones keeps reappearing in the film.

Seeing the same cars over and over on SF streets brings to mind the classic chase scene from "Bullit." Keep your eye out for the green VW beetle. http://youtu.be/31JgMAHVeg0 (Sorry, can't imbed from iPad.) Different film technique (editing in the same scene from different cameras to give the illusion of a longer chase) but results in the same car appering over and over. |
can't help but wondering how many of the folks in the movie did not survive the earthquake
