Anyone into UTVs?

I'm doing my annual maintenance and stuff on my Kubota RTV 900.

I just added a backup beeper and manual override switch, when suddenly the HID ballast for the left side headlight went out. I think they are Xenon? Not sure to be honest.

So I spent a few minutes online to find out what I have, and holy mackerel!! HID lighting tech has lept ahead 20 years in about 2. The array of stuff is mind blowing. I haven't even figured out what bulbs I have, but finally found a ballast.

Anyway, I have a ton of mods on it. Thinking about a winch, but not sure that I'd ever use it because it does mostly light hauling, parking lot duty/ security, and mainly moving me around all day.

I was wondering if there is anyone here who owns an Arctic Cat, John Deere, Bobcat, or the like. Mine is a Kubota.

Edit: I'll post pics of the Momo Prototipo and Wevo shift knob just to keep it "Porsche" related.

Nice ride! I have one of those as my "work truck". I usually walk, but if it rains, I use it around campus.

Why don't you just walk downstairs to the parts counter at your Porsche dealership and source something from a Porsche that fits?

What do you ride? I'm sort of curious about how other people outfit their rigs.

I'm wondering more about the Mercedes Benz HID lights, to be honest. I might try those. And almost nothing factory Porsche fits. Merc has an interior light that might work, but I'd have to fabricate a box. I might go with experimental aircraft gear from Aircraft Spruce.

Not for me, but there are many around here. Many fit tracks in the winter to get to their cabins near Lake Cle Elum when the roads are closed for the winter. Some fit a snow plow blade. I know one that has a Snowblower on the front.

Saw a decked out used UTV at a dealer last year for just $19,995. Sales guy claimed it was $31,000 new with all the extras. Guy used it for a year and figured out his pickup was a better tool.

Licensing requirements vary by state, but until this year, you could really only ride them pretty much on your own property. Not legal on county roads, not legal on Forest Service land, DNR or hardly anywhere. Yet, we go to Montana and Idaho and they zip around on city streets....

That's really interesting because here (California) the city uses them with the same turn signals and stop lights that I have, for parking enforcement. They drive right into heavy traffic with them. But I even have the farmer style slow moving vehicle triangle on mine. I took it through the drive through at McDonalds haha!

I have a Polaris 330 magnum that I pull a small 4x4 tilt trailer with. I'm generally on my John Deere 955 with the front end loader.....much more usable than most UTVs. Other than that, I ride Honda XR dirtbikes.

I would like to find a John Deere Gator in good shape, but every used one I see is 20 years old and $4000.

rusnak 05-13-2015 05:23 PM

Yeah I hear you. My other ride is a Ford. But the cargo box, fuel economy, and the fact that I have to zip around quickly make the UTV a better choice. In fact, I'd love the have a cab, but the doorless setup makes getting in and out a better setup. We have a fast work pace, and the doors would just get in the way. A tractor for that application is a no-go.

Your tilt trailer sounds very interesting though.

My 4x4 tilt trailer is an old road going, formerly licensed unit that has a drop down tailgate and a full fiberglass lid that tips up out of the way. The lid is cracked so I leave that off. My FIL had this trailer for behind his Honda Aspencade when they travelled.

I bought the 6x6 Polaris below in 2013. I wish I had bought one sooner. We use it everyday for something. I keep it in the house garage.

The snow plow has been great!

I have some tool racks on the back and tool box configuration. I am adding gun mounts this fall

Seahawk, now THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout! What a BRUTE! Is that a 6 wheeler? Makes me think of the amphibious Argo. If you can manage it, I'd really enjoy seeing pics of the back end and box.

We did the six wheel since I drove a friend of mines John Deere six wheeler for years on his farm during Christmas Tree cutting season. The machine is incredibly smooth and stable and I have yet to get it stuck! The bed also dumps.

My dad has the 4 wheel ranger which is good for work. I went out a few weeks ago with my boss in his 4 seat RZR 900 on some mountain roads north of town. Great fun sliding out of every corner. We went up some narrow tracks that no keep would fit on too. Very cool! I want one, but I've got no space to store it!

BK911 05-15-2015 09:35 AM

Rusnak, the kabota I use looks just like yours. It also a 900. Not sure what's been done to it since I inherited it as a work vehicle. It has lights, blinkers, radio, heat, etc... I can take pics if you want.

Bsiple, those rzrs are AWESOME!! Picked up the little 570 a few months ago and WOW!!! Never ceases to amaze me. Mine is for blasting around the yard so didn't want a beast like you have.

Wow, just wow!! I've never seen one of those before. Now I have to go down to the Polaris dealer and take a closer look. I really like the way the rear wheels would spread out weight from a trailer. I would tow my water trailer if I had one like yours.
