Seahawk - have you heard of Lily???

This is incredible - at least to me! Automatically follows you around....

drones for dummies ...awesome!!!!!!

masraum 05-13-2015 06:50 PM

Holy crap! That's very cool. I like the throw and go launch and the floating launch and the landing.

TheMentat 05-13-2015 09:57 PM

I just saw this today as well... It's like a modern day selfie stick! :)

porsche4life 05-14-2015 12:43 AM

The guy I work with couldn't get out his credit card fast enough. I need to order mine as well. Will be a fun toy

ckelly78z 05-14-2015 02:49 AM

Come and fly them over my property....I need some skeet practice !

wdfifteen 05-14-2015 03:34 AM

Nice finish on it. The perfect toy for today's narcissist.
It was pretty impressive when they threw it in the water and it took off.

GH85Carrera 05-14-2015 04:30 AM

It is a cool toy. I just wonder if it is fast enough to keep up at an autocross or race track. How cool would it be to have an aerial of your hot lap around a race track or a local autocross. Of course when 1/2 the field has one buzzing around and fighting for airspace it will get real interesting.

Lily is the first of a number of these UAS that will be hitting the market.

There is one, I can't find the link right now, that folds and fits in a shirt pocket...the ultimate selfie without a stick. Very short duration flight.

Try this link: sUAS News | Unmanned Aircraft System news for RPAS operators

The site is owned and managed by a friend of mine and I spoke at their Expo a few weeks ago.

Advances in control technologies have been quantum in the past 10 years.

Cool stuff but I am concentrated on aerial mapping, photogammetry, construction, surveying, etc. with UAS.

We are working on having four quads automatically follow four people (each gets their own) and have them automatically deconflict their movements. So far it is working in virtual space and we're testing in mixed virtual/physical spaces. Will be doing full physical testing probably later in the year. We're looking at it for training applications but we're also doing photogrammetry and have some cool algorithms that will fly a drone over an area, take the photos, and generated a 3D game environment (extensions/variations of stuff like ReCap 360)

Interesting times...

In another life, I would have gotten into robotics... interesting times and the future is going to be extremely interesting.

Back in my day we had the same thing, we called them birds.
But you had to catch them and train them to follow you around.

And we didn't have cameras, we drew pictures with pencils and paper. But we were darned glad to do it!

Until it lands upside-down!

It has been done. Remember, water is a fluid medium, just like air. More dense, of course, but the UAS quad/rotary wing designers (some of the really bright folks) have already designed UAS that "fly" in water and in air.

The big problem is communicating with the UAS even in very shallow water. The other problem is cameras don't like to get wet. Water proofing the air vehicle is easy.

When I was in uniform I ran the AUVSI Student UAS competition. The universities that competed ran the gamut, but the kids were uniformly talented, driven and willing to think in ways I could not.

Lily is just the beginning.

I've never really understood the selfie thing, but that looks like a fun toy...it'd be really cool to toss it off the boat when fishing and a charterer hooks onto a fish and record the fight, then give them the vid as a souvenir...could probably write it off too!SmileWavy

My farm from a UAS.

Taking orders now($500), not shipping until Feb 2016?

Likely there will be cheaper, better versions by then.

I bought one also...just for the hell of it. It can only go 25 mph...if it could go 35, it could follow a well set-up 944! ;):D

My buddies kid grew up w/ the Lily's founder.

I'm w/ Rickysa...throwing it off a boat during a wide open tuna bite would be neat!

A couple more gens in...I wonder what they'll be able to do. I'm sure this thing will be like a walkman in 10 yrs.
