If you had infinite garage space....

If you had infinite garage space,
but the exact same finances/income/time constraints (for DIY)
what other cars would you add to the stable?

You would have to be consistent with your maintenance habits, as well.
So, if you had 10 cars, you'd still need to either fix them or hire someone to pick up the slack with your current financial picture.
The only thing that changes is that you have an endless garage.

What cars would you buy?

I think I would start with a Miata and a driver quality muscle car.

I have a bit of ocd, so probably one of each body style; 914, 356, early 911 or 912 coupe and 911 targa.

PorscheGAL 05-16-2015 11:57 AM

Morgan 3 Wheeler

I would also get either a early 80's G Wagon or a 70's Land Cruiser with the fold up bench seats in the back and a roof rack. I just love that boxy SUV look.

I would just like to park the 5 cars I have in the garage. And my bike and the kids bikes.

porsche4life 05-16-2015 12:14 PM

Umm..... I'd be buying about 3 cars a year I suspect if storage space wasn't a concern...

jcommin 05-16-2015 01:55 PM

None - I would put my DD in it.

Probably add lights, work bench, floor and heat.

Now if I had more money - well that's for a different post.

If I had infinite space, I could clean up my garage & organize my tools & supplies. I'm not interested in accumulating cars. Of course if I happened onto a nice, affordable MG TF1500 .......

With infinite space, forget bout' the stupid cars. My woodshop will live there for sure. Buy a CNC machine and have a place section off to park the cars I have now

rfuerst911sc 05-16-2015 11:43 PM

I always wanted to build a Cobra kit car.

WPOZZZ 05-17-2015 03:21 AM

I'd buy a 348 Spider and the 959 rep that is at my friend's shop. A killer sound system for the garage, a couple lifts, a hot tub, a stripper pole and a few 80" tvs.

Series I Datsun 240Z or AMC AMX w/ Go Package

By definition an infinite garage is everywhere, meaning all the cars in existence are already in it. My car is in my garage, so are yours, Jay Leno's, air force one, as well as any yet to be discovered alien spaceships and such. I would have a very hard time affording to upkeep all these vehicles, so I would need to charge a nominal storage fee.

My first order of business would be to reverse engineer any alien technology from the spacecraft I have acquired to make some new gadget I could sell for money. Once I am rich from that, I would divide the garage into two spaces- one for woodworking, the other for cars and metal work. Mixing sawdust and motor oil never works. The metalwork section would be over Allentown Pennsylvania, the woodworking section over the mountains of North Carolina. I would have to decide which state to dump my used motor oil in. Perhaps Jersey.

I would not let Tony Robbins drive in my garage.

Mark Zuckerburg could not drive either, but he would be forced to work on cars. I would give him a beater 944 turbo and make him work on it to learn what real work is all about. His first order of business would be to figure out why it is overheating. Then he'd have to break loose all the rusted turbo/wastegate bolts while the engine was in place.

As for cars, on a daily basis, since all vehicles in existence were in my garage, I would drive any car that struck my fancy. If grew bored, I would park it and try another one.

Since these cars belong to people, I would be generally respectful and take care of them, except for the rice mobiles. These I would encourage my friends to come over and we'd get drunk and race them enduro/demolition derby style. I would also repossess any of those supercars over in the middle east that some rich oil prince decided to gold plate with neon pinstripes. I would have those converted back to stock.

In my metalwork shop, I would probably get some old SWB 911 body, strip it, and stick it on a rotisserie, where it would exist into perpetuity as a 99 year unfinished project.

I would also need some space to put all my kid's s#%@.
That's about it.

I would be happy with a bigger garage and would get a new to me PRHT Miata. However it would not end there as the obsession would continue. Some things are meant to be....

petrolhead611 05-18-2015 04:08 AM

Right now I would buy the cleanest least molested Subaru Imprezza STi available and ditto for A Jaguar S type V8 supercharged and an R129 500SL AMG. They are all at the bottom of their depreciation curve right now. Problem is, I just havent the space to own any more cars at all, as my wife constantly reminds me.

Slider79SC 05-18-2015 12:01 PM

I would put the 3 cars and the bike in there that I currently have in a 2 car garage....

Haha! That's awesome! I can't add anything to that. But I am building a warehouse for my stuff later this summer. Oh, and Big Ass Fans has sh***y customer service, so their lights and fans would not be in my place at all.
