"Disney Fast Play" on DVDs
Whomever invented this time-wasting, inconvenient nonsense - much less had the gall to market it under the name "Fast Play" needs a serious boot to the head and a nuclear "golden gate" style wedgie. That is all. Just my rant for the day. I just want to be able to pop a DVD in and have it play the movie without wading through 15 minutes of BS, previews and other crap (or have to sit there for three minutes hitting "menu" and "fast forward / skip" to get to it!) Is that really asking too much? Really?
More stuff I've got to get on iTunes and NOT on DVD anymore I guess. |
Crap like that plus warnings that can't be skipped encourage piracy.

Fast play is the worst. My grandkids watch the same DVD over and over again and don't seem to mind the 15 minutes of previews that you have to watch if you make the wrong choice on the menu, but I can't stand it. I think I'll hide that dvd.

After 15 minutes of commercials my ADD kicks in.
Hard. I might even go outside and do something else. |
First thing I do with a new DVD is rip it to my SAN to avoid all that junk.

Geez thanks for spoiling it!

Even my 7 year old daughter says "ugh stupid fast play!" Fortunately we rarely watch discs anymore... Almost all streaming. Good until they add previews on streaming.

That IS the worst. Its basically an ad but also a way to slam the videos in while driving and not pick through the menus or show the kids how to start the video. What a pain though.
I hate pretty much all DVDs...my blue ray takes forever to load and every disc is different... by the time to sit down to watch I feel much like that graphic. |

Though "SAN" is an awfully generous term for a 2TB disk that sits in my iMac. |

Yup, huge PITA. Remember when DVDs didn't have any of that crap?
|
Remember how much VHS sucked? Remember how much cassette tapes sucked?
I'm happy I dont have to make mix tapes anymore. |

MPC-HC lets you go right to the root menu if you are playing back on a PC, but we rip everything and watch through Kodi. Much easier for the kids. The computer case looks like an old time radio.

LOL, I just read, "Disney Fast Play" with that stupid announcer's voice in my head. My daughter is 12 so mostly grown out of all the Disney movies but occasionally we have to put up with that. The trick was to be ready with the remote so you could quickly skip past the Fast Play to the regular menu. Thankfully newer Blurays allow you to use the pop-up menu to go straight to the movie.
I have this vision in my head of Hugh walking into a room of Disney marketing execs and smacking one of them on the back of the head. "That's for the guys at Pelican." :D |
Im not understanding the issue. I have all these videos with Disney Fast Play and hit "enter" when the Disney Fast Play language begins and the primary menu starts and the movie starts. If I don't hit menu then yes, the ads and previews all start and is a complete pain in azz.

F*ck.....I've been thinking the same thing for months now! My 2yr old loves watching Disney movies and every time I'd click "Fast Play" thinking it would play the movie sooner. W-R-O-N-G!
Blows my mind to be honest. Glad I'm not the only one.... |
I too hate fast play, but I'll tell ya, it's a life saver on a road trip when you can't find the remote for the car dvd player, and you need to select "enter", not "play" on the menu to get it to play!
