You go right from the car to the Royal Box in full view. The man had a lifetime achievement taken from him - to be the winner of the Monaco Grand Prix. He built an incredible lead over Nico in the same car. He's simply a faster driver on a tougher track. I have a year's worth of empathy for him.

^^^ I thought Hamilton handled himself with relative grace at the post-race interview. He didn't rant, he didn't throw the team under the bus. As for running into the 3rd place sign and sitting in the car, I guess some of you have never competed and lost due to someone else's screwup. While I rant about the lack of sportsmanship in most current professional sports, these guys are at the absolute limit and are driven beyond what I can comprehend. To have a lifetime goal snatched away from you at the last minute by your team - that's a tough one to process.

I am not a fan of Hamilton but I sure respect his driving skills. Overall I think he did OK considering what happened to him. And his own team did it to him! I would be upset as well if it had happened to me. I guess he can console himself with the 150 million dollar contract. That would tend to lift my spirits some.

I think at least part of the blame for his 3rd place finish has to be shouldered by Hamilton himself. Why didn't he simply ask his pit if ROS & VET had stopped, instead of assuming that they did?

Nobody *****es about the lack of passing in the World Rally series, because everyone enjoys seeing the drivers pushing their cars to the ragged edge and beyond. This race is the same. The nuance are a little more subtle but they can be seen, if you watch closely. For me, watching what an F1 car can do is secondary to the actual positions on the track. They may not be as fast as they were in 2004 but they are still mind-bendingly quick.

Watch the entry to the swimming pool chicane a few times...

F-U. I watched the entire race. I watch every race. Don't tell me what I should be doing.

javadog 05-25-2015 04:55 PM

Well, the race wasn't over after the first turn, now was it?

Quit yer whinin', boy...

I never said I didn't enjoy watching the race. You seemed to have made a pretty wild assumption from my post which you got completely wrong. At the time I made the post the race was over until his team made a mistake. I'm not whinin', and I'm far a boy. You really need to back it down a few steps.

The driver is just that the DRIVER. He is told when to pit and when to stay out even if he wants to pit for new tires. He is not supposed to have to think about when to pit and when to do anything but drive. They have a pit full of many trained professionals with computers and algorithms and fancy programs to figure out the best time to pit. They screwed up and screwed Hamilton out of a win.

Deschodt 05-26-2015 05:38 AM

Watch him question every pit call now.. he was already a poster boy for radio pleasantness before ("don't talk to me"), now should be interesting. It'll never happen because they are professionals, but one time I wish one of the race engineers would come back on the radio with "Hey you little twerp, STFU and listen to the info we have for you" ;-) (maybe one that's about to retire?)

Now I'd dearly like something else to happen in Canada to further delay his world title (delay the inevitable, really... like a Ferrari win maybe, or a Bottas miracle) just to see how Hamilton takes it. More Sulking/whining or more mature. Just curious - he exhibited both in Monaco, hard to tell... The guy is unquestionably a bundle of raw talent and speed, but he sure isn't likeable.

Hambone is well know for "discussing" team decisions. This all happened pretty fast and in hindsight it looks a lot different from a comfy armchair.

Take off your hat, play with your douchey hair for the entire song, put your hat back on and feel sorry for yourself.

Douche things happen to douche bags.

Hey, maybe a whole bunch more tatoos and a more douchey haircut would help (as if that would be possible).

Hamilton was obviously unhappy with the way the race unfolded. Still, he managed to pull his crap together and give a decent interview. His post-race, pre-interview antics were pretty mild and completely understandable. It's not like he slugged Nico or anything.

What happened? Your post got held up by the server till after the race ? ;-)
Verstappen was indeed quite fast, to the point where he screwed up. But he's done very well until now, so he gets a pass. Sainz too... Last to points, in Monaco, not bad ! Those new kids are pretty good !

Aragorn 05-26-2015 08:20 AM

Once again Kimi's comments were one of the best parts of the race: No Cookies | dailytelegraph.com.au (ninja edit... apparently no cookies for you.)

Didn't like the move that Ricciardo put on Kimi. Not even close to having the corner and just bum rushes his way through. I understand that Monaco is a hard track to pass and all but I agree with Kimi... That's not very nice...

As far as Mercedes calling in Hamilton for new tires with a few laps to go... Why? Unless they were throwing the race to Rosberg, can't figure that one out.

Enjoyed watching Verstappen going through the field but his last pass on Grosjean was dangerous. His closing speed on that corner was way too fast. Almost seemed like Grosjean parked it and Verstappen had no where to go. The blame is on Verstappen because he put both of them in position for the crash but still, why was Grosjean so slow there?

Is it contagious ? ;-) What's the point of those anyway? They get kick out of replies ?

I agree with the post above too... Kimi got robbed. No idea what Tom K was thinking, RIC did it Paul Tracy style. Which is fun, granted, but 99% of the time that's not allowed in F1.... Lucky break for Daniel !

They usually have some sort of trackback feature. When they first started, they had their own smilies with a hidden website. Just flag them for a moderator to remove.

As for Paul Tracy, I never really liked his style in CART/Champcar.

Amail 05-26-2015 09:16 AM

Recall Jules Bianchi scored Marussia's only points last year muscling his way past Kobayashi around Rascasse. Maybe you get some leeway around Monaco as long as you don't tweak someone else's ride.

Kinda funny how different your opinion is of Hamilton from Brady...both "hard working" champions.
