What are Holden's like

I am contemplating a Holden Commodore - how are these cars for daily drivers? I want the 6.2L version with a manual transmission.

same as the chevy SS or old G8 ?

I am looking at a G8 GXP.

These are really Holden's so I am hoping someone from down under will chime in.

In General... Great cars. Well built and reliable. If you go ahead you should be pleasantly surprised.

The factory is about 20 kilometers from my house. Unfortunately it's due to be closed by 2017.
According to the US GM suits it's too expensive to make cars here now.

( I'm sure some Aussie Ford guy will chime in a say I'm full of it ;) )

GM imported them and sold them as GTO's in the USA. I don't think you can import them into Canada. Check with DOT first.

Buddy of mine had a GTO. Very cool car. Understated

When you look at your min. wage and the trickle up they may be right. What's min. wage there now, about twenty Oz dollars an hour? So from that starting point it might be cheaper to make them in the US.

The hourly rate and that a car made in Korea is about half the cost. Not to mention fuel prices and such for bigger cars.

Korea is relatively close to Aus. Our roads are full of "temporary" cars.

I've drove a 2006 (I think) GTO and was pretty impressed. Quality was far and above better than anything else GM was making at the time, the interior felt very German to me. Driving experience was pretty fun, basically a muscle car that can also take a corner, which seems typical of Holden from what I've seen and read. Big honking V8 with lots of power, nice quality, decent handling. Overall a pretty cool car, and I'd say the same about the G8.

I don't know how they drive, but there is a guy who auto crosses his late model GTO, it makes a great sound and gets around pretty quick.

One of the guys at my VFW post has a 2008 or 09 GTO........He let me drive it a couple of laps @ Mid Ohio a while back. Wow!!!! He still has it and it ain't for sale, so he says.

They are very popular around here, but I wouldn't touch one.

The are very well marketed. The loyal fans watch them racing on TV then go out and buy one. What they don't know is there are almost no similarities between the raced one and the one in the dealership.

A guy I know bought one to rock up to the racing in and proudly park in the Holden area. What he didn't anticipate was the 16 times it would go back to the dealer to get faults fixed.

Bill - that scares me.
