Bringing purchases back to the US from Canada

There is a set of wheels (no tires) in Canada that I am considering purchasing. How do I figure out how much customs will be or if bring these wheels over will be a problem? I looked at the US customs site but could not find an answer. The wheels will be under $1000.
I am hoping one of you has purchased parts in Canada and brought them back to the US and give me some advice.

I've brought in $2,000 in parts in the back of a pickup and paid no duty. Customs guy waved me through.

How much depends on where they are made and if the Customs Officer wants to do the paperwork. I believe duty on parts made in Germany is 3%.

Tell them you bought a set of used rims for your car (Price).

Get the seller to give you a bill of sale with his name and phone number/address on it.

If they are made in the USA, Canada or Mexico the duty rate is 0%

And how the duty is figured is Cost of goods, converted to US $'s, X the rate of duty = duty

So $1000 X .80 (I didn't look up the exact exchange rate) X 3% = $24

Remember the bill of sale.

Just an update. The seller and I ended up agreeing on a price. I went over yesterday and picked up the wheels. They asked me on the way back if I was bringing anything into the US, how much I had paid, and how I had found the ad. They waved me through so no customs.

I did have a bill of sale as advised.
