It is astonishing how much things have changed.

Old timers like myself remember the excitement of the Windows 95 release. I ate a restaurant that was next door to a computer store. There was a line of people waiting on a chance to buy Win 95. Most were on floppy discs!

Now we can if we want download a new OS and everyone hates the process. Not even the Apple lovers want to experience the pain of upgrading a computer to the new Apple OS.

The push seems to be throw out your old computer and just buy a new unit with the OS installed.

I will hold off on Win 10 as long as possible.

sammyg2 06-02-2015 05:39 AM

If it were up to me I'd still be using win 95 ;)

Funny thing is that the functionality hasn't changed. MS just scrambles things around and adds more fluff then forces it upon everybody.

EarlyPorsche 06-02-2015 05:44 AM

Wayne what version of Windows are you using? Is that 95?

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 when I got my new laptop last year. It truly does suck. Should have gone with 7.

VincentVega 06-02-2015 06:55 AM

It is pretty sad, they finally got the interface and functionality pretty solid with 7 and they tried something new and it was horrible.

pcardude 06-02-2015 07:09 AM

I actually like win 8. I went Mac years ago but win 8 makes me think Microsoft is doing things better

Although I'm a youngin, I've played extensively with windows 95, currently run windows 7 and OSX. Reformatting with a fresh install of 7 is a breeze. When I purchased my mac I went straight to an SSD, I recall pressing a few keys to enter recovery mode and it installed the OS. Both were a really easy process

New apple OS install procedure:

1) Wait till a little notification pops up on the screen and says NEW OS TO INSTALL!

2) Click "upgrade"

Pretty easy to me :S:S

Maybe 10 will change things but it has been getting much, much easier since 95. I hated finding a driver for absolutely everything! Plug n play was practically non-existent. Good luck finding your driver online in the 95 era.

Computers are not as complicated as people think, and those that think they were better in the past just haven't educated themselves.

HOWEVER, what Wayne just experienced is a complete fail, right up there with the BSOD at a Microsoft keynote.

Wow, just how bad is the Mac OS?

Windows 10 is adding in some low level stuff that was pulled out in Windows 8/8.1 so performance should improve.

EarlyPorsche 06-02-2015 09:43 AM

Windows 8 drove me nuts but 8.1 seems really nice to me. Anyone else like 8.1? I don't mind OSX but I guess its not that big of a deal to me any more. 7 is really nice but I understand that machines with 7 will get more and more rare. Hopefully 10 is just a prettier looking 7.

widebody911 06-02-2015 09:54 AM

I hate Win 8 and I really hate Win 2012

pksystems 06-02-2015 02:14 PM

It can't possibly be worse then 8

JeremyD 06-02-2015 05:01 PM

I hate Windows 8 with a passion. Whoever signed off on this piece of crap should get booted off the planet.

Baz 06-02-2015 05:04 PM

I'm using Vista and it works just fine. :)

+1. It's pretty much like 7 for me since I turn off user account control warnings and the gadgets, etc. Use 7 at work and the icons are bigger and it seems there are more layers of folders in 7 which is annoying.

rusnak 06-02-2015 06:13 PM

I stayed with 3.1 because I hated Vista. 7 is OK. I had to get used to navigating the trees of folders. But 8 - don't get me started. It looks like a Learning to Count game for retarded 5 year olds. I think the best thing that happened to me was my Sony laptop dying twice, which made me switch to Mac. Still use 7 Pro at home though.

Dantilla 06-02-2015 06:31 PM

Windows XP was the best. Bummer they quit supporting it, or I'd still be using it.

If Windows 10 is not a significant improvement over 8.1, my next computer will be a Mac.

I've had 8.1 for quite a while now, still can't stand it.

stealthn 06-02-2015 06:50 PM

Hahahaha

911_Dude 06-02-2015 08:26 PM

I went all Mac because of Win 8. When my 12 year old PC died I refused to go to 8 because of those stupid Tiles. I love Mac OS. I still have one PC left for garage use and it has Win 7, which is ok. It seems pretty clunky when I have to use it now. Im hopeful that Win 10 will be a comeback for Windows.

I'm still kicking myself for not going to Mac when I bought a computer late last year.

porsche4life 06-02-2015 08:48 PM

Just had to save a few bucks didn't ya Matt? ;)

flipper35 06-03-2015 10:08 AM

All the computers we get for work are downgraded to Win7 Pro. Home is all 7 as well except a couple old ones on XP.

Shadetree930 06-03-2015 11:30 AM

I love 8.1

I run Start 8, which is very similar. If your new OS is so bad that people are buying software to make it look and operate like the prior OS, that is the definition of an epic fail.

That is what I use on my home computer.
Most of the time I can't tell it's windoze 8.

island911 06-04-2015 08:38 AM

Win10 is still a pre-release version, right?

Months ago I used some of the very first builds of Win10. The only instability I found was the constant updates. ...seemed like every few hours. Otherwise, Win10 appeared to be what Win 8 should have been from the get-go. :-/

Oh, and I expect that Win 10 will kill Classic Shell (which I also use/endorse )

john70t 06-04-2015 12:26 PM

I hope someone included a WinXP install DVD in a time capsule, which will someday save the people of the future.

Now that right there is funny. One small clarification though...XP was the last MS OS to fit on a CD (XP SP3 is just over 600 MB.)
