Talking machine guns...this hobby makes Porsches seem cheap

i always get a good giggle out of these videos:

http://www.gulfcoastarmory.com/mgvids.html

for what it's worth, a minigun uses up ammo at a rate of about $80 per second. the gun itself can cost you $60,000-$100,000 by the time you're ready to cut loose.

even the cheapest Class III weaponry these days hover in the $1,000 - $4,000 range. magazines and linked ammo can cost you from between $100 to $200+ for enough ammo to last you roughly 2 minutes.

step up into 12.7mm and you're spending $2.00-$3.00 a shot and going through ammo at the rate of $30 a second.

just some typical prices:

aaaah. some day

enjoy the videos!

My father was head honcho of the CT SWAT teams for awhile in the mid-1990s... anyhoo, he got to try out some nifty stuff, and bring his teenage sons along for the ride My personal favorite was the MP5 that cast a hologram down onto the gun; the hologram was a picture of the target, and there was a laser sight on the hologram, but not on the target in real life. This way, the target has no way of knowing they are about to be toasted.

very cool! i know those holographic sights you're talking about. they're pretty damn cool!

the big downside though in the USA is that the NFA act has made $3,000 guns into $9,000 guns and it never made them harder for criminals to get. NY state is also a non-NFA state so no Class III here for me. i can still go over the border to shoot, just can't bring that stuff back.

i have some videos that friends took when they went to a huge Machine Gun shoot. the amount of money that people spend there makes a Porsche swap look like a basic flea market. absolutely rediculous amounts of ammo being used. we're not talking thousands, or even tens of thousands... but HUNDREDS of thousands of rounds per hour!

take look at that minigun volley video and consider that there was probably $400 in ammo used for that short burst.

Angry BET U BELONG TO THE NRA

U guys are GUN NUTS TOO!!! Don't U realize how much safer U would be with out the threat of Gun Violence.... California now has the toughest Gun Control laws in the nation thanks to our Gov. Gray Davis. We also can thank Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer both CA Senators for being leaders in the area of Gun Control.

In CA we have the Drop Test Law in which every handgun has to pass a safety test to insure that it won't go off accidentaly. If a handgun gun isn't submited for test it can't be sold. SA's are exempt.

In CA one can only register one handgun per month.

These are just a couple of the progressive laws that CA has passed in the year or 2.

yes, Gun owners across the USA are familiar with the laws in the People's Republic of Commiefornia. it greatly limits the amount of fun that you can have while greatly incresing the prices you pay.

no, i'm not an NRA member offhand but i do defend the rights and liberties of others.

happiness is a belt fed gun, heaven is full auto.

Shame on You

Guns are NOT FUN they are serious business.......they cause a lot of grief in the world. It's people like you that the guns should be taken away from. Your just another Gun Nut, who probably would go crazy and kill innocent children. I am surprised that you don't belong to that NUT CAKE group the NRA.

is that an insult? i believe there's something in the policy here against insulting and attacking other users. i take it as a great insult that you'd think i'd harm another human being. i have fun shooting holes in paper and pieces of tin, not living things.

register that as one personal attack/insult by tabs52 against this pelical parts board member.

Wah wah wah.

I grew up the son of a cop, and was properly trained in handling and using guns. If everyone was properly trained how to handle guns, there would be far less accidental shootings.

And don't even come to me with that "taking the guns away from criminals" crap, because 1) If someone is going to kill you, they will just use a knife or an axe or a chainsaw or a stick with a nail in it if they can't find a gun, and 2) criminals will ALWAYS be able to get guns, whether we illegalize them or not. They are already criminals, they don't care about the law.

I am not a gun nut, I don't own a gun. I am actually VERY liberal (can't stand Bush ), but gun control is one of the things I think the government wastes too much money on

And the war on drugs too.

yeah, i'm not a total gun nut, i'm selective about what i buy and own and shoot. we are on about 300 acres here so there's LOTS of land to go shooting on. nothing feels better than sinking a bullseye from a long distance. i am by no means a marksman but i can hit golf-ball sized targets from 50 metres with my AK. i can hit quarter-sized targets from 50 metres with my Marlin Model 60 and 25MN. the Nagant M44 is anothe story altogether. that's a brute! i am still sharpening my proficiency.

some people like the satisfaction of sinking a hole in one. others like 3-pointers. others like field goals. i like taking a careful shot and getting a bullseye on a paper target or a piece of metal i have sitting around.

machine guns are cool, but damn are they expensive! i've mowen through 76-round drums from my AK and that was pretty fun but 40 seconds later you're out about $5. with rapid fire you can spend money like it's water. if i had the cash, and could buy class 3/NFA stuff, i think i'd still keep it cheap and get soemthing like a sten or Uzi where ammo is dirt cheap.

As a golfer, I can assure you... sinking a hole in one is a MUCH bigger feat than anything you mentioned

Sinking a hole in one, on any course short of Pirate's Cove Mini Golf, is akin to placing 1-2-3 at LeMans.

Whoops, I think Tabs52 is trying to wind the good people up again.

I seem to remember Tabs52 had a Detonics combatmaster, (hardly an uninformed or non-enthusiast choice), and was into collecting from another thread.

Or was that one the wind up?

Completely Beside Myself

I am sorry if I lost my temper there and insulted U Opie. I am sure that U wouldn't be out killing innocent children. But when people start talking about Guns and Gun Control.....well it's just an important issue for me....one in which I will donate money and time for........ I have even joined several organizations which furthers my beliefs on the issue of Gun Control. It is a very serious issue which I don't take lightly. Gun ownership is a serious responsibility, since the consequences of being irresponsible can be so finial.

A Detonics what Combat Master.....I am sure that if I owned one I would never have mentioned the fact in a thread on this Board or for that matter any other Board.

Why I do believe we have more than one Tabs52 amongst us.

But no, surely it's impossible to have more than one man of such wealth, discernment and taste amongst us?

Perhaps the cheap whisky he's been quaffing has started to affect his memory.

Well let's refresh his memory before someone deletes the thread!

Happiness is a Warm Gun

Happiness is a Warm Gun STARTED BY...........Tabs52!!!!

And now some selected quotes by Tabs 52 from the same thread:

Boy and I thought I was in the wrong place. On that other Board if you mentioned the word "GUN" you were labeled a "terrorist." Right Paul. But then again that other Board is located in the Peoples Repblic of California. Where the Attorney General of the state is a Cross Dresser.

Oh, and I don't know which I like better my gun or my Porsche. The growl of a 911 at full throtle or the recoil of a Smith and Wesson 44 mag. The smell of hot Castrol or the smell of Hoppes Number 9. It's all perfume to my nose....

Guns are easier on the wallet??? They are? How about a 1878 Sharps Long Range Target? I got a Detonics Combat Master and a Sig 210-6. Your right about the fine machinery though. Guns can be very expensive, even more so than 911's.

One of the most intriguing rifles I bought was a 2nd Allin Trapdoor Conversion in 50/70. To make a long story shorter it's a converted Civil War Musket into a Trapdoor Single shot Army Rifle circa 1866. I bought it from a Lady whose Great, Great Uncle owned the rifle. He served in the 7th Cavarly from 1866 until 1898 when he retired. He was at the Repblican River in 1867, Wa****a wt Custer in 1868, the Yellowstone Expedition, The Black Hills expedition, The Battle of the Little Big Horn ie Custers Last Stand, Canon Creek 1877 Nez Pearce, White Clay Creek ie Wounded Knee, and in Arizona Territory in the 1890's chasing renegade Apaches. Not only was he at all those places he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He was part of the Major Reno, Capt Benteen defensive battle on the bluffs. If the rifle can be tied forensically to the Battle of the LBH the rifle would be worth in the neighborhood of 30 of my Sharps rifles. going by auction records of similar items (this would be the only one that could be tied to a specfic indivdual and one who was awarded the CMH for bravery at one of the most famous Battles in American history). Chanches of tieing it to the Battle are not good though.

Or perhaps Mrs Tabs52 no longer lets him play with the big boys toys and he's gone politically correct to save face.
