Quad (or more) copter thread

I've read the enthusiast threads but wanted to start one to keep all your knowledge in one thread. I'm moving from a small dual blade copter to a DJI Phantom 2 with my GoPro.

I have a few questions on first person viewing, is it better to just use the GoPro app on a phone or ipad or to use the DJI downlink stuff? What's the real distance you can get with (LoS) the GoPro app @100 yards?

I know a guy at work that builds his own 8 rotor copter so I hope to get some info of him, but I know alot of you have them.

Thanks in advance

The Go-Pro may not be compatible with your Phantom if you want to use first person viewing. The Go-Pro FPV signal interferes with the Phantom control signal. You may lose your copter. OTOH they may have fixed this issue in the past few months.

Yes I read that too. I'll try flying by sight for the most part anyway. And no, I don't want to fly around people's houses
I'm more interested in nature filming
