How to plug a toilet - Seriously

We are renting our lakehouse but the tenant does not have access to the garage, since we store personal items in there (locked). It's an insulated garage with a utility sink and a toilet....and this is Georgia (hot). Don't want the toilet to become a science project!

I know I can shut off the water to the toilet to keep it from refilling. But, what about the drain? We're on a septic system. Is there any potential that the drain water will eventually evaporate allowing the stench from the septic system to get into the garage? I'm thinking the plumbing into which the toilet drains will always have water in it and as such, all will be good.

Anything I'm missing?

It takes a long time, but the water will evaporate out over a couple of months. Go to Lowes or Home depot and get one of those expanding balloon type plugs for sewer lines.

Pour some RV antifreeze into the bowl and put saran wrap over it.

Vegetable oil will not evaporate, and it should not congeal into a solid mess. As long as there is water in the bowl, there will not be an issue

RV antifreeze is what they use to winterize houses when water has to be shut off. Turn off water, flush a bunch, and put that antifreeze in there. Also tape the seat down with a sign that its got that stuff in there so people stay out and also keep their kids/pets from accidentally getting in there.

Yeah, that would work. The oil floats on top of the water and keeps it from evaporating.

I'm leery of putting oil or antifreeze in a home toilet on septic...

I agree.

I would think toilet will be ok for a few months, sink trap might dry out, but it will take a while.

Less than 3-4 months should be ok, any more and I would think about stopping the drains.

Garage
Put Tang (breakfast drink) in bowl and tank to retard algae growth and keep the water "clean".

Good call. RV/Boat water tank antifreeze is non toxic.
