We we were in Cape Town, a guy tried to block our car in. My wife and daughter were in the car. I made it plain that I had no problem running him over and basically shoved him out of the way with car. This was on a well lit street in a nice area.

Please also look into Canada.

My wife's family immigrated to Vancouver from Johannesburg. I was under the impression that things were generally improving, but maybe not. Our family have some stories... My father-in-law was carjacked/kidnapped, and had to be picked up by armed friends from a dodgy neighbourhood where they left him. Her mom pulled the distributor rotor out of her car each night, and they would find the car at the bottom of the hill after a failed theft attempt the next day. We laugh about these stories now, but I can't imagine living through it with 2 young daughters as they did. I suppose it was still better than the war in Yugoslavia, which is why they went to RSA in the first place. :(

I had some old co-workers who left SA after he got held up at gun point in his own garage. There is quite a community of South Africans here in Dallas.

A cousin of mine lives in Joburg and was held up at gun point for several hours as the thieves ransacked looking for their safe. Unfortunately for them, they didn't have a safe, so the thieves went through the entire house. They bought a safe just to avoid that hassle in the future.
