R&T Scion FR-S

I was flying (with the use of an airport and airplane) this holiday weekend and picked up a copy of Road & Track to kill the time (Readers Digest was sold out).

First: Scion is going to put out a rear wheel drive sports coupe with a Subaru boxer engine in front! Predicted 3000 LBS and $20-25K

Second: Chrysler has bought Alfa Romeo and will bring them to the US of A... and they are going to sell a Viper re-skinned in an Alfa body

I admit the Viper has always been the sledgehammer in the sports car field... but at least now it is a good looking sledgehammer!

Carry on

That sounds cool but aren't Chrysler and Alpha already owned by Fiat? No?

The V-10 should help with that...

As far as who owns who... I gave up keeping track years ago... I was surprised to learn that Chrysler owns Alfa.

Alpha... funny... I've done that too. (I'm never surprised to see "Alpha Romero"

Yes, FIAT already owns both Alfa Romeo (for decades) and Chrysler (recently). They own Ferrari, too.

There have been a number of threads about Alfa possibly appearing in Chrysler showrooms soon.
The Alfa/Viper rumors have been around for a year or so.

I wondered, when Toyota picked up part of Subie from GM, when they would become sexually 'friendly'... it's already happening though, the Legacy, which had some style, is now another Camry look-alike.

Can hardly wait for VW/Porsche to start didling under the covers. The next Boxster a VW/P 914 thingy?

There was also an article on a smaller mid engine Alfa.

Thumbs up New-used Scion FR-S

We picked up a lease return on Saturday, traded in my Roush Mustang Gt. This car is a lot of fun to drive, the seats are near perfect. It is the direction I had hoped Ford would go with the new Mustang (smaller & lighter). The boxer engine redlines north of 7K and sounds good with the stock muffler. The boy and I are going do a few mods and Autocross locally it in C street.

In my opinion this is a true sports car. DP

STi has been doing tests on them in Japan with very upgraded suspension and some body work. No engine mod though, they don't seem to be interested in making them faster.

I test drove a BRZ a few times, great steering feel and nice, nimble handling (very easy to get the tail out, without even trying). If it just had a bit more power down low... It doesn't need 300 horsepower (though that would be nice), even 230 or 240 would be great for the size and weight of the car.

I ended up getting BMW 128i instead - which I love, but I still eye every FRS/BRZ that goes by.

Someone has to have an aftermarket turbo kit of this engine. No, it will never be as good as a factory setup, but its something.

I looked at these for awhile. I just can't pull the trigger on a car with so little HP- I used to have an RX8. Fabulous car, but needed SO much more engine to match the phenomenal chassis. Its frustrating to track a car where no matter how well you drive, on straights you just get annihilated.

For AutoX I bet it is a blast, just like the RX8 was. HP is not king in that scenario. If there was a factory turbo, or maybe a flat-6 option, perhaps I would have one now. I really dig the body on the FRS. There are 2 on my street- they are so refreshingly small and low.

And it would probably cost a few thousand to tune it and set it up properly.

You could still have the car and the HP for under $35k.

Saw one of the Subi's on the freeway, didn't have a chance to check it out but from the look and sound it seemed to be heavily moded.
