This is terrible news. Yes, and particularly Chris Squire, have been my greatest inspiration through some really dark times. I had the opportunity to meet Chris and the rest of the band about 13 years ago in Philadelphia, when they were awarded the keys to the city. The future ex-Mrs. dtw was there too, and she was a huge fan of Chris. As the band made their way through the crowd, she (at 5'2") tried to push her way to the front of the line to greet him, but she was pushed back. He walked by and was almost out the door. She squeaked "Chris!!" plaintively, afraid she was going to miss the chance to meet him. He heard her voice and turned around. He came striding back and folded her up in a great big hug. She was beyond thrilled.

This really hurts.

Chris, thank you so much for all the music and memories. God speed, Fish.

I ran into him at The Rainbow in Hollywood a few years ago. I was almost in tears, I was so starstruck. Peter Criss took this photo with my phone and I couldn't have cared less, even though I was into Kiss long before I had heard of Yes. Chris was just amazing. I'd go to a candlelight vigil if they had one here.

Sad news. I have been a fan since the 70's. Yes was one of the first concerts I ever attended and the last. The ex and I had "And You and I" engraved on the inside of wedding ring. I have a Yes tattoo on my right calf. Am I a fan? You bet. Thanks for the music and the memories.

And his playing is why I got a 4001 with Ricko-sound.
He helped put the bass higher in the mix.
Great musician.
I no longer play a Ricky but back in the day, a lot of us bassists got one because of him.

R.I.P.

Thanks for this. I was listening to this song in the car last night, and made it about 2/3 through before I lost it.

Re-posting a portion of my post from Rick's thread on Ginger Lynn and Chris Squire meetings from a few years back:

Quote:

I was in the back row of the floor seats at a Yes show years ago, and some exec just randomly handed me a front row ticket. My buddy just looked at me and said GO!! I'll find you after the show...off I went. I sat next to Janie, Jon Anderson's wife and directly in front of Chris Squire. Got to spend 2 hours standing 10 ft. away from him watching him just rock the house. Of all the Yes family members, Chris has always been the 'rock star'.
That memory has always stood out in my mind. I'll never know why that night went down like it did. This executive-looking-guy just came up and tapped me on the shoulder, and asked if I wanted to hold his ticket while he went to the bathroom. My mind was still reeling as I made my way to the seat, still not really believing what was happening. The exec guy never came back, although I watched for him at the entrance every 30 seconds. I got to spend around 2/3 of the show there, just 10 feet away from Squire, as he thundered around on stage. Janie Luttenberger-Anderson, who I understand goes to every single one of Jon's shows, just quietly smiled the entire time.

I've got the entire Yes catalog on my iPhone, including the solo projects. I haven't gotten the nerve up to listen to Fish out of Water yet. I will before the end of the day.

From Jon Anderson's page:

Quote:

Chris was a very special part of my life; we were musical brothers. He was an amazingly unique bass player - very poetic - and had a wonderful knowledge of harmony. We met at a certain time when music was very open, and I feel blessed to have created some wonderful, adventurous, music with him. Chris had such a great sense of humor... he always said he was Darth Vader to my Obiwan. I always thought of him as Christopher Robin to my Winnie the Pooh.

We travelled a road less travelled and I'm so thankful that he climbed the musical mountains with me. Throughout everything, he was still my brother, and I'm so glad we were able to reconnect recently. I saw him in my meditation last night, and he was radiant. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.

Love and light.....Jon
It is great to hear that Jon and Chris reconciled before Chris's passing.

I'm going to add Awaken, it's long, and I suggest everyone get out the vinyl and have a real listen.

RIP, Chris Squire.
