Thunder, lots of it

Well for here at least, been going on for a while. Nothing like Costa Rica but for SoCal, Southern OC it's something. No rain yet though.
June gloom may go out with a splash.

Just about finished that and we got some better thunder and lightning, now it's raining, pretty good, at least for this area. It will probably stop in a second.

Just in time to mess up the commute.

Typical rule of thumb in So Cal is, drivers around you lose one IQ point every time the wipers make a pass. ;)

I'll trade you some of our thunder rain and storms this year for some of your drought. We are looking at the first 24 hour period without rain in a LONG time. Just a couple of hours to go...

Mid afternoon here saw about a half hour of heavy downpour with lightening and thunder. Some really big heavy drops & some that were half ice (hail?). Took about another thirty minutes for the sky to clear. Any amount of rain is welcomed.

Costa Rica thunderstorms are amazing. Sitting on the patio of our friends' place in Playa Junquillal and watching the storms roll in over the Pacific was magical. (The heavy doses of rum and Guaro could have had something to do with it though). When they came ashore late at night, it became a challenge to sleep. Good times.

This is what 3-4 inches of rain per hour looks like:

ouch, I had one sip of Guaro one time, that was it. But slept well during those storms, sometimes a foot of rain overnight.

That is something I really miss about the Mid-West. It is so awesome when the storms come rolling in.

It looks like we will be moving back to Seattle soon. We had some huge boomers come through this afternoon. I will miss it. :(

yeah, it was pretty florida like today in the south bay.

Definitely nice to get some "weather" here in the OC today. Slow moving storm cell came through Tustin about 3:45.

I was just returning from looking at a Carrera RS being restored in Anaheim. As I got closer to home on the 5 I was driving into deep black skies.

Got back to home/shop and tucked customer 996 and 991 into garage, then just stood there and enjoyed watching cloud to cloud lightning and the slow rumble of thunder.

Never really rained much. Big drops fell slowly for about 1 hour off and on. They evaporated within seconds of hitting the ground.

I feel like I remember way more electrical storms growing up here in the '80s.

Have had the fun of seeing sheet lightning up in Idylwild while camping too!

Sleet. Good times.

A buddy of mine (KS kid) spent close to 10 years in OC and then San Diego before moving back to KS last year. He said the midwest thunderstorms were one of the things that he missed the most.

One of my wife's former co-workers was a grey haired but blonde to the bone stupid lady. She was very pleasant to be around and nice but she would say the dumbest things.

One day after a thunderstorm she said "We had a LOT of thunder last night but no lightning":confused:

+1. We just returned from vacation in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica and loved the evening storms. I think in 2-3 nights it rained more than all of last year in San Diego :) A few nights were accompanied with major thunder and lightening. Magical experience. Now is a great time to visit CR, days are clear and sunny, nights are stormy.
