What I've Discovered About Online Ordering - Sometimes

Over the past several months as I've ordered parts and tools online I have discovered that when I select a part or a tool from certain websites (today from Sears) is that when I place an item in my cart and not go to Checkout, I usually get an email the next day that states the following or similar:
.
"We noticed you left items in your shopping cart. If you had any problems during checkout, please contact a Specialist who will be happy to help you.

As a special thank you we would like to offer you 15% off your next order.

Use promo code XXXXXXX to activate your discount."
.
This particular discount code this morning gave me $12 off my Sears order.
I discovered this phenom by accident a few months ago and have rec'd 4 discounts since. My original intent was not to bamboozle a company but rather that I just wasn't sure that I wanted the item/s. But last night I intentionally did not Checkout and left my computer on with the Sears order page showing - just to see what may happen.
Anyway, there you go.
Happy Shopping.

When I get the mail and find a new Bed/Bath/Beyond coupon every day for a week I know my wife has been there recently.

Old timey CRM tactic... The company has triggered emails that fire under certain circumstances. We called this one "abandoned cart". There is probably a data point collected that says page closed and items in cart. Doubt you will get an email if you leave it open. Suppose they could also time out the page and trigger the email as well.

I did that with Amazon.com because for the life of me, I could not find the button to pay. So I ordered my stuff from Sears. Amazon does not care. They are like a cat.

I have put items on my Amazon Wish List and a few days later the price has increased by as much as 20%. I'm assuming Amazon does that intentionally.
Who knows?
Other times the item has increased by just a few pennies...which is understandable.
But yes, "like a cat".

Same thing happened to me at Newegg. Put something in my cart, and didn't check out. The next day, it was 25% more.

Needless to say, I didn't buy it.

I've had Amazon send me a email telling me items have gone up in price but never received discount offers.

I've noticed that some retailers won't tell you the price of a item till you add it to your cart. Menards thinks I'm buying $22,000 worth of refigerators.

Yep, same here. Though a few days will pass and I have pop ups for the discounted pricing. By then I rarely bother. If I really needed something and will order right then at that time, so the other stuff is only like window shopping.

Yet its really getting funny because if I'm out and at the actual store or competitor, I can look the product over, then do the look-up on the phone whatever and use as a bargaining chip. To my favor its usually a better deal.

And don't let the clerk discourage you by refusal to acknowledge the online deal. 99% of the time a manager will approve. Guess its all about whether you want to play their game or not. Most consumers won't and that's what they bank on.

I've noticed that with Delta as well. Every time I come back, it's gone up in price.

Heck, if I didn't buy something at x dollars, I'm sure not going to buy it at x + 25%.

Amazon just holds it in your car forever waiting for you to come back and buy.

Wells Fargo must be going through some major stuff right now. Twice in 2 days they put a fraud lock on my card for ordering stuff online. I got a kick-ass headlight from LED Lenser. I'll post a pic if anyone is shopping for a new flashlight.

WE know who you are.
Where you live.
How you live day-to-day.
How much you still owe.
How much you have in reserves.
Where you need to go and why.
What you are willing to pay.

I once needed to fly out on short notice.
A death in the family.
Called for a bereavement flight.
Called same airline back (on a different phone) and it was half the price.

Pigs get slaughtered.

All of the airlines jack up the price if you hit their site multiple times in a short period. You can bypass that as long as you aren't somehow logged in and you delete the cookies between visits.
