Micheline PAX Tires

Before our Disney trip we replaced all four of the PAX tires on my wife's van. The day after we returned home we found that the rear left had picked up a nail and had gone flat. Now at a little under $400/tire these tires are expensive to replace. So I thought I would just get one of those tire plug kits. I've used it on my 930 before and it works great. According to Micheline and also in the odyssey manual you cannot repair these tires. There is a semi-solid ring that is mounted on the wheel that allows you to drive with a flat. So I don't understand why you can't repair the tire itself. This has actually happened twice now in two different states and both dealers say the same thing. Can anyone shed some light on this? Cash cow for dealers or is there a lagitimate reason for the insanity?

According to what I read on tire rack and another site Bridgestone and Michelin allow repairs "as long as the tire hasn,t been driven deflated past the 50 or 100 mi they are designed for ,
They should then be removed from the rim and the inside examined for damage like balling up rubber shredding inside.
I personally don,t trust plugs inserted from the outside but suppose if they fail on a run flat you can still run them flat as before and expect the TPMS to tell you of air loss.

I can't comment on the run-flat aspect, but usually when you drop that much money on a set of tires, they come with a "road hazard warranty". Check the paperwork that came along with your receipt. You could get a free replacement (or close to it).

I've never run run-flats, and usually get a puncture every 2 years. I've had them plugged and last many many miles.

I bought a set of Michelins from Costco about 6 months ago because they automatically came with a road hazard warranty, I believe from Michelin, I would see if that road warranty applies to your tires.

Were they really $400 per tire? Are they mini van racing tires? I would find a shop that would be willing to patch the tire, I am not a big fan of plugs.

A modern radial should be patched from the inside There is a style of plug which is like a tiny umbrella which expands on the inside and acts something like a proper patch.
I,ve seen too many tires fail with conventional plugs (primarily taxis and trailer tires though)
