It's been fun watching our (US) women play. They have a huge hurdle to clear with Germany. If they do a US/England final match would be awesome.

Halftime and still no score.
Yanks are pressing hard with much activity near the German goal....but can't quite get their shots off. The Germans are very physical - to the point of playing a bit dirty. Guess that's part of the strategy for some teams.... GO USA!!!

Congrats to our Womens Nat'l Team! Well done. But that was an appalling job by the referee. She very nearly ruined this match by missing calls, calling the wrong fouls and letting some dirty play by both teams go. Time for a second official on the pitch says I. At any rate the US ladies made more of their chances than the Germans did. On to the Final!

I'm not a big soccer fan but I was a little disappointed... I though the protocol for the winning team was to rip off their jersey and run around the field in their bra?

I travelled with my daughter and a couple of her soccer buddies to Vancouver (7 1/2 hours by car - not the 930 : ) ) to watch Cameroon against Ecuador and Japan against Switzerland. Then this last weekend we travelled to Vancouver again to watch Canada and England.....
Fun to watch on TV but really something to watch in person with 54000 other fans. And what inspiration for my two daughters 15 and 17 who love competitive soccer. Too bad Canada didn't win. Would have been very cool to watch them play Japan today, on Canada Day in Canada. US looked very dominant over Germany. And yes Baz, great hard working goal by sub O'Hara. Thought Germany would press a bit more but US defence just too strong - shut them right down. Hopefully it will be a good final - I am thinking against Japan....but its soccer...so we will see.

Thanks for your post and insights, Paul!
And thanks for being such a great Dad to your two daughters.....always a pleasure to hear stories like this. Sorry as well that Canada isn't playing on this historic day. Happy Canada Day anyway, eh? ![]()

Yes flatbutt......a terrible way to lose...especially with so little time left in the game.
But now a revenge match for the USA!

Terrible way to lose but nothing the defender could have done differently. If she pulls her foot back and Japan scores anyways, she would have been blamed for the goal. Bitter sweet day for that girl since she was the reason they had a goal as she drew the penalty shot earlier.
I think USA takes it easy....there will be no underestimation of Japan this time. Plus, just watching Germany/USA they seemed to be on a much higher level than Japan/England. The gap is closing but there is still a big gap between the top teams and the rest of the world.

Lloyd to O'Hara was just so brilliant! I 've watched it over and over and over again.

Did anyone see the German defender on that play who stuck her foot up a hair too late? I wouldn't surprised it she broke it or at leas severely sprained it. She was on the ground quick and stayed down for a while before limping around the rest of the game.
