Austin Dillon crash at Daytona

Simply mind blowing that the catch fence could absorb all that energy and keep the car from going into the stands. He goes from 180mph to a full stop in about 50ft. And he walked away with some bruises.

Glad the engine went into the midfield instead of the stands. Crazy it wasn't worse.

SHEEEEESH! That's crazy!

It was cool to see many of the other pit crews run out to his aid.

First and foremost was the Jr's winning Nationwide crew.
Like or dislike Nascar, they really behave like a close family.

It was nice to see but I thought the response time was too long. I realize it's a big place but at Indy the safety crews seem to be there before the car stops spinning.

Couple of weekends ago. R/A going towards T5. I forget exactly when they installed the catch but often heard spectators complaining of the obscured view.

There HAD to be some soiled shorts along that wall.

Geoff Bodine's truck crash was worse as far as I remember: https://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0SO8wfICJxVEJQAYOZXNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2 NjY3OQRfcgMyBGZyA3lmcC10LTI1MgRncHJpZANFU2NhdzZnZF I2YXNNYm82ZGZzRDRBBG5fcnNsdAMwBG5fc3VnZwMwBG9yaWdp bgNzZWFyY2gueWFob28uY29tBHBvcwMwBHBxc3RyAwRwcXN0cm wDBHFzdHJsAzQxBHF1ZXJ5A2RheXRvbmEgc3BlZWR3YXkgYmFk IHRydWNrIHNlcmllcyBjcmFzaGVzBHRfc3RtcAMxNDM2Mjg5Mz k3?p=daytona+speedway+bad+truck+series+crashes&fr2 =sb-top-search&fr=yfp-t-252&fp=1

Of course any wreck is not good as I remember Tony Kopacz going end over end coming down off the hill in his vintage 911 at Willow Springs many years ago. He was fine but had some really bad bruises the next day from the belts.

When you attend a race you assume the risk. NASCAR has ruined Watkins Glen for safety's sake. Might as well watch the race from home. Nothing like being there.

As for the crew running to the car, that is probably way against the rules as that is what the safety crews are for. When I used to motorcycle road race back in the 60's and then vintage race the 914-6 at all the driver's meetings the safety head/track manager always said to never ever approach a wrecked car! His main reason was a fire/explosion could happen and then several people would possibly die, not just the driver.

I know that sounds cold but it is very true and when Walt Maas (famous Datsun driver) crashed on the front PIR straight in Wayne Baker's 914-4 and was knocked out everyone stood still and the crash crew was there in a minute or less.
