Pentair pool heater = POS

Pentair pool water heaters are POS! Had a new one installed in 2011. It is covered and only used 3 months a year. It failed to start last week. Turns out it has a leak in the heat ex changer that will cost more to fix than a new unit. Pentair says it is the result of incorrect water chemistry. I check it religiously as does my pool maintenance crew. Can anyone recommend a quality pool heater?

My Jandy Heater is going on 10 years.

Pump went the end of last year(Jandy) and I replaced Pump and Filter with Pentair. Pump was DOA, and Pentair wouldn't warranty because I installed it. Fortunately I bought it from Amazon, they shipped a replacement in 2 days, and paid postage to return Pentair Pump.

Amazon 5 stars, Pentair Zero.

"Incorrect water chemistry" my ass.

Why do companies even bother to offer "warranties" anymore? It seems all they ever do is make up BS "weasel-out" excuses like this in the event you put a claim in. I should post the worthless non-response I got from Targus (backpack mfr.) recently when inquiring about having a cheap plastic clip replaced. Useless, useless, useless. In fairness Jansport has stood behind their "lifetime warranty" for me.

Sorry to hear of your trouble - I assume this is something you can't take apart and weld / braze / fix yourself? Most heat exchangers are pretty dumb / simple.

Repairing the leak is possible. The leak caused other problems. I will tear it apart eventually. New unit going in soon. I only get 3.5 months to use my pool. Not going to waste it.

I have a teledyne laars heater. Only problems so far was a pressure switch in about year 3. YMMV

OT.... But osprey stands behind their bags very well. ;)

Sorry I know nothing about pool heat. Our pool is at 94 already with no heater.
