Trimming down the fleet...........

After giving the matter lots of thought, I decided to trim down the personal fleet a bit. With my wife an I being the only drivers at home now, having 5 vehicles seemed to be a bit much. So, I traded in my 2012 standard cab F150 and my Ford Diesel Excursion for a 4 door F150. Since it will be doing the work of both vehicles, I have decided that it is a "Truc-Kursion". The new ride is a (new) 2014 with leather interior, 5.0 engine and enough options to keep it interesting for a while. One of my favorite goodies on this truck is the backup camera that lets me see the trailer hitch! My wife and I took it on a little road trip to Columbus, GA yesterday and got 20.5 mpg! In town it will probably be more like 16 mpg or so. Now, there are "only" 4 vehicles left, the Truc-Kursion, a 2013 Taurus, my 1980 911 SC w/3.3SS engine and a 1994 Jaguar XJS convertible. It will be tough, but I guess we will manage!

Excellent choice Fred, we love our 2012 F150 crew cab 5.0. It is a fabulous tow vehicle, makes taking out the boat a real pleasure, especially hooking up the trailer. The 4WD, back-up camera, condo sized back seat and V8 torque make life easy for this old dude. DP

There is currently a fleet at our house too. My son has his Dodge pickup, my daughter has her VW Jetta, we still have my wife's old VW Cabrioout in the barn that needs fixed, and her current driver, a 2003 BMW 325ci. I have my 99 Powerstroke Superduty 4x4 F-250, and my 85.5 Porsche 944, along with my daughter's old car a 96 Saturn SL2.

We need to do some consolidating also......I have been thinking about selling the Cabrio, the Saturn, the F-250, and my 944 and getting a newer King Ranch edition diesel F250, and then either a 2000-223 911 Cabrio, or a newer Mustang GT for a daily driver.

Sounds like an upgrade to me!

We're in the same situation. Between us we have
1970 F-100 (mine, used frequently)
2010 VW CC (Wife's DD)
1987 Mercedes 560SL (My DD, would like to sell once values come up some...)
2000 Celica GT-S (mine, like new and sentimental)
1992 Volvo 960 (formerly wife's, will become my kid hauler)

I can see it getting down to four, but that only means that I start eying 996 turbo or NSX listings... :D

I talked my wife into selling off her Jeep 4 dr. a couple years ago so I could justify keeping my 993 as her daily driver.I have a left knee injury which makes a stick a pain. I have a 2012 F150 reg cab shortbox as my daily. She hasn,t driven the 993 around the block in 5 years, so she traded it for a new 3 series BMW.
I,m also selling my 1972 454 Corvette and then my 55 Belair will be next, then maybe my 1966 Mustang fastback
Only 2 drivers so 5 vehicles is a little selfish.
Problem is I now am lookin at a bargain boxster S with that extra parking space.

Good choice, my 2012 F150 SCrew 4x4 5.0 is a really great truck.

Congratulations! There's a reason Fords are so popular. I went truck shopping last year and didn't like any of the new offerings from the big four. Decided to keep flogging my old Tundra a few more years. I'm thinking of thinning my fleet too.
1947 Dodge WD-15
1956 Porsche coupe
1956 Porsche Speedster
1988 Porsche 911
1999 BMW Z-3
2003 Tundra Ext cab 4x4
2009 Chevy HHR (co. Car)
2009 Chevy Silverado (co. Truck)
2015 Chevy Volt

The Z-3 is fun, but I think it's going to go away soon. The HHR may get replaced with a Volt next year.

This thread is the reason "storage units" is a growth industry in the US. LOL

Sold 2 of my 911's in the last year. I just sold one of my 912 project cars. Ill probably be selling my other one by the end of the summer. I've been all about simplifying my life. Less projects, less storage, etc.

Heck, I might even be selling the F-car. that's still on the fence.

I sold 2 of my Porsches early this year. I'm still recovering from that trauma.

We have 6 cars for 2 drivers. They do all get used but 1 could and will go away sooner or later without being missed much.

My father-in-law is a hoarder. I think he has 11 cars now and that's not a record for him. Some are very nice but some are junkers he just won't part with.

+1.

Sold my 993 last year, and no more worries now. It's nice to have the perspective of a former owner of a special interest car.

Now to decide what to do with my R1200ST....:)
