ChemMan, I'll shoot them an email or give a call. It can't hurt. Thanks for the link.

Tevak- There isn't a backing plate. This screw goes through a piece of 3/4" teak toe rail and into a 4" x 8" oak stern timber. There is the possibility of through bolting but the bolt would be nearly 12".

Hope all is well?! Haven't chatted and a long while.

Two places I would try:
Finkles Hardware in Lambertville. Not boaters, but an old time hardware store and typically, you name it they have it or can/will get it. : FINKLES ONLINE: PLUMBING-ELECTRICAL-HARDWARE-STEEL-TOOLS

or possibly Jamestown Distributors: Jamestown Distributors

I found stainless screws for my Targa top clamps here.

Good luck!

Chesapeake Marine Fasteners
Directions
Marine Supply Store
Address: 10 Willow St, Annapolis, MD 21401
Phone (410) 266-9332

If they don't have it, you won't find it.

Hi Bob,

All is good. How are you? Did you finish your house? How is the Targa coming along?

Jamestown was one of the first places I looked. They have a Bronze screw the size I need. I will use that as a fall back and get it chrome plated if I can not find the proper stainless steel version. I'll give finkles a try.

Charles- Thanks for the post. I'll give them a try today. It looks like they may be a division of Fawcett?

charlesbahn 07-21-2015 04:26 AM

Hi,
No relation to Fawcett's that I know of. Small little place near the Armory, if you know Annapolis. Marine fasteners is all they do, and they are the go to place when all else fails.

Finkels was a good shot, I forgot about them.

Mcmasters sells threaded barbed inserts for wood in brass. then use a machine screw?

cabmandone 07-21-2015 07:52 AM

Have you checked Fastenal or McMaster Carr online?

drcoastline 07-22-2015 02:39 PM

dad911, cabmando- My fall back is a bronze screw that I will have plated. Prior to I was hoping to find the correct Stainless Steel screw.

Tevak- It's a 1958 Trumpy 53.

The screw fastens down this chock indicated by the red arrow. Three 3/4" lines broke during a micro burst last October of last year. Only the port stern line kept the boat from drifting into a transient boat directly across from us. The stress of a 29 ton boat must have been a little to much for that 57 year old screw. As you can see the swim platform was also damaged during the storm. We were lucky the storm saw a sailboat also break loose. The boat was swept into a high voltage power line, the owner was on board and electrocuted.
