We picked this up for the Mrs to use as her new LED dive light. Kinda the best of both worlds. Has both narrow and wide beam. Rechargeable and waterproof. In her words, “it’s grippy so I like it.” Paid $125 via a dive shop but saw it on Amazon for $89.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8a6d0959db.jpg

It slides fore and aft allowing you to choose where you want to place the beam. Great light for spelunking in a lava tube. There are time you want a wide beam and a narrow.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...feb1b8f8de.jpg

What size is the regular incandescent bulb in your "18v tool battery flashlites"?

These are made to covert Maglite torches to LED but these might fit.

https://niteize.com/high-power-led-upgrade

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665161741.jpg

those fit
the 18v tool battery lites use a standard bulb socket pr2

but do not last long
burn out in an hour or less
4d cells is only 1.5x4 = 6 volts

even tryed the 12v version [claimed]
they do not live at 18v

even the specialty only lite bulb store has no 18v rated led bulbs locally

Reviving this old thread because a knife thread, a spoon thread, and a flashlight thread must come up every 6 months.

My old SureFire 6P (incandescent) bulb finally gave up. So without checking with any PPOT folks here, I went with one of the top results from a basic Google search: Malkoff M61, which converts it to an LED.

We'll see how it goes.

masraum 03-29-2024 06:59 AM

I'm surprised this thread has been so quiet for so long. Seems like it used to come up more often.

Malkoff is a pig farmer and was tired of not being able to see is what I heard. He makes a quality product. During those early days of LED retrofit, I bought a couple of his modules for my Surefires. Now they have been lost at my construction job site and there's no looking back once I bought modern LED pocket size flash lights. 18650 rechargeable battery is what you should look for. I have no idea what the Malkoff cost but at one time, for about the same price, you can have a Fenix or something similar that will blow the doors off the Malkoff replacement LED modules.

wildthing 03-29-2024 11:31 AM

Yes, but you can never have too many flashlights. :) You need a flashlight to change the batteries on the dead flashlight.

In testing whether it was the bulb or the battery I switched the batteries with my 6P LED, and my Fury. To look for the Fury, I used my Fenix with the 18650. I did notice that the 18650 will of course eventually drain even while in storage. So having CR123 torches somewhere is not a bad thing.

I always have two 18650 batteries charged up for those dark days. I have never had any of my 18650 completely drain by sitting. Now, I have one at my mother's place and that will go flat between a year or two.

I have a built in USB charging, I believe they are still 18650? No issue with it so far. When I remember, I stick the cable on my way home during traffic jam until it is full. Love it

I picked up a Kolbalt rechargeable LED, figured $25, it would be a good idea to have another light as Milton was on the way.

I must say, for $25, I'm impressed, as it also comes with a Duracell filled battery cartridge, when you don't have the recharge capacity. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1728660105.jpg

My brother gave me his work light. He’s used it hard. It’s the best light I own. I use it for jogging at dark mornings and it will light up the neighborhood. I shined it at a herd of deer and almost shocked myself at how it lit everything up. I hoped I didn’t wake up the house I illuminated.
The torch lives an easier existence now.
It has a rechargeable battery. You just plug in a usb cord directly to the cell.

Here are a few of mine
The Olight Arkfeld Pro (with the dragon) is my favorite. The lazer and UV functions are excellent. Highly recommended that everyone own one of these. Yea you cant replace the battery but nothing is perfect. Olight Seeker 4 is next fave.

I absolutely hate Streamlight due to the confusing user interface and stiff feel of the buttons. I wont buy any more from this brand as my brain can not memorize the sequences for programming

Fenix is nice but the fact that it can not tail stand because of the big rubber button is a huge negative against it. It gains points for simplicity.

I have many other 'torches' . Olight has proven itself to me to be the easiest to use and have the best recharging system. I tend not to buy gear I depend on that is made in China. Olight is an exception. Love the company. Impressed by the factory and excellent quality. I go out of my way to support them as a company because I have been very impressed. I also have all their key chain size lights hanging off various zippers, key rings etc...around. Love those too.

Love how the magnetic ends of the Olights allow me to stick the light to anything metal to use as a lantern.

If storing a flashlight in a car what is the secret if there is one to keep the batteries from leaking ? For me that has been an issue . I even put a thin coat of dielectric grease on the ends .

Cheap batteries expensive batteries it doesn't seem to matter . Is it just check/replace every 6 months ? Do rechargeable NIMH batteries leak less ?

Get one of those Fenix or Olight with a rechargeable battery. They don't normally leak and the charge last a long time if not used regularly. You pay a few bucks more for it but buying typical batteries isn't cheap neither, and you have ruined flash light.

O-lights are great but there are other Chinese companies that are just as good such as Fenix, Nitecore, or Thrunite. I have never had one fail on me yet and have use their products for years now. The Chinese product you are talking about are some of the junk sold on ****, e bay or harbor freight for 8 bucks with 2500 lumens.

Many years ago, when Wayne was mayor, Amazon was blocked, could not be posted.

The cheap Chinese place, I can only assume is home of lots of counterfeits and stolen IP, as well as location of lots of crap parts for various European imports. Probably not a bad idea to have it blocked.

I've got half a dozen of the little i3E EOS from Olight that were free gifts with various purchases or during sales. I've also got a Perun II headlight, and a Warrior 3S. I'd like one of the models that have the UV, but it's not a must have. I'd also like to have one of the smaller (in between the Warrior 3 and i3E. I think there's a Seeker model that's got UV (or is it the Baton). I'd probably get that one. The Arkfeld just doesn't do it for me.

They go on sale a bunch of times per year. I pick things up then. I also have one of the pens that was also a free gift (don't remember how/why) that has pen, light, and laser all in one. I probably wouldn't ever pay $60-70 for a pen, but this is a very cool pen.

The magnetic charging is awesome, so much better than having to remove a battery or open a fiddly door to plug in a cable.

The quality of Olight seems top notch. They are a huge step (order of magnitude) above most of the other Chinese made stuff. I haven't had to use it, but their cust service is supposed to be top notch.

I still have my old Zebralight and Thrunite headlight and flashlight, but they don't get as much use as they used to.

yea i know. I have most of what you mentioned as well as those others in my pic. i guess my point was, of all of those, i’m most impressed with Olight and if anyone is doubting chinese made quality- don’t unless you want to spend $500 plus for a custom made USA made flashlight

Yeah, who else makes a flashlights nowdays. I question Stremelight's quality compared to say, Fenix or Olight? I think they have the market cornered and they are quality products. I, like most of us have been saying all along, they will out product the Japanese with high quality products in due time. My nest question is what's going to happen to us?

vash 10-14-2024 04:08 PM

I feel they kinda priced themselves out of the fight.

I think the quality is comparable with all these and it’s really about features and function. I love the features on Olight, especially the magnetic charging system and common sense approach to changing brightness modes and finding the strobe. Love the flat magnetic end that allows you to stand it upright or stick to metal, and the battery strength indicator on some models etc….cant really go wrong with any of them so long as you know what you want …..lost power today for 3 hours and used my Arfeld Pro in the basement trying get my aquarium air pumps on battery backup. I am always reaching for a flashlight….taking the dog out every night etc…

The Fenix I have is great…just don’t like that big rubber button at the tail end.

In reality, I use my headlamps the most. Unfortunately, even with the high end models I buy, I can’t get more than 2 years out of them before the are dead or fall apart

ramonesfreak 10-14-2024 05:41 PM

The Seeker 4 Mini is great. The UV seems better on the Arfeld Pro in my opinion. The lazer on the Arfeld is nuts. If someone is a contractor or building inspector etc I imagine it would be very useful to point out something way high up on a ceiling etc….very powerful. I took a gamble on it and ended up really loving it so I got my dad one and he loves it too. Fits in pocket very well too. I expected to not like it but it has needed up being my favorite flashlight so far. If you’re not into them, check out the Seeker 4 Mini. No lazer though. Otherwise it’s a small almost perfect light ….hard to beat for $55. On sale now. https://www.olightstore.com/seeker-4-mini-white-and-uv-led-flashlight

I bought one of those tiny flash lights for my wife so she can kept in her purse or bag. I forgotten what brand (I think it was a Nitecore) but it does tail stand and it has a magnetic end. It save our butts one night when the rad. hose leaked on her van overheated in a dark street. I had one too but they seem to slip off my hand often due to its size.

I have a nitecore TN12 or similar in every one of car. Just big enough so I can hang on to it but skinny enough to not get in the way. I think they are just under an inch in dia.

Personally, I like simple flash lights. A single tail switch with three modes. Low, med, high and no strobe light and I hate cycling through the strobe mode. Ability to do a tail stand is a must.

If you ever need custom lights made, I know a guy in Seattle that will make flash lights to your specs or his. I had him make a couple floody lights for me using the typical 1" EDC casing using 18650. Sometimes, I am not concern with throw but real working light that doesn't blind the user.

For head lamps, have you try Zebra light. I like their 18650 with floody lens. Great light. I am sure there are better lights out there now, but those headlights are used often and they don't die. Mine has been all over the world.

Damn you Ramonesfreak. Why did you have to post a link to that flat O-light. I just lost 100 on Amazon. I like the laser pointer feature and the UV light all in one.

Flashlights are one thing, and the batteries for them are another.

My Surefire 18650 were OK, then one crapped out. I replaced them with Panasonic ones. They seem to last 3 or 4 times longer before recharging.

I like the laser for pointing out things as a contractor. That's the main reason I ordered it. Plus, the UV light comes in handy. I sure will report back. Those mini lights such as the Seeker Mini the are too small and always seems to slip through my finger falling into some cracks that I will never be able to get the light back. I wish they made a swivel head on the Arkfeld so the light can be angled downward to use as an emergency work light using the magnetic attachment to a metal pole.

Rot 911 10-15-2024 02:09 PM

I got this off of Amazon for $35. Puts out a reported 1 million lumens. Not sure if that’s true, but trying to look into it is like trying to look into an aircraft landing light. Plus, it’s got a work light built into the side that will light up an entire room or work area. On top of that it even comes with a little tripod. Finally, it is USB rechargeable and you can charge your phone or any other device off a USB output. And each one of the two lights has three brightness settings.

They have the "Arkfeld" which is flashlight, UV, and laser all in one.

The have the "Arkflex" which has a head that will swivel to 90º, but is only a flashlight (no UV or Laser).

Very interesting. I've heard good things about Panasonic batteries (I think here on PPOT). I've never thought about it for these rechargeables.

My Thrunight takes 18650
My Olight flashlight takes 21700

What a pain! LOL!

Where do you get your Panasonic batteries that you're sure that you aren't getting counterfeits?

Delivered few hours ago. The flashlight itself in Turbo mode isn't too impressive but enough for daily use. Press three times, goes into turbo mode. Can't compare to my Thrunite Tn12, similar to Fenix's PD35 on high but that's not what this light is designed for. I still hate to have the strobe mode but hey, life goes on. Love the laser and it can be seen during daylight That is a huge plus for me. I just tried in pitch darkness, the laser is visible three houses away The high mode is ok, enough to see most things and the hot spot is perfectly round, more like a floody light instead of a torch which I really like for general use. The square light feel takes some getting use to. I normally dislike thumb switches but ergonomically works pretty well in my hand. This one is a keeper so I am buying a few more and hand it off to my workmen. I is handy to have instead using the DeWalt light that runs off tool batteries. Those damn thing are bright and blinding but no laser. That's a very nice feature I found useful in my line of work.

What a pain! LOL!

Where do you get your Panasonic batteries that you're sure that you aren't getting counterfeits?

I don't know if they are fakes, but I buy from these guys

My old eyes like the Zebra 18650 floody head lamps. I don't even use the Zebra AA anymore. The over the head strap makes is very comfortable to use.
