Irrational Fears?

I was working in the garage today and had to move a few mousetraps around on the floor. They weren't set, but I could still barely touch them. When setting them, I'm absolutely terrified of them. Never been bitten by one, but have them snap on me all the time when setting. I hate mousetraps.

Wear snow ski gloves or similar.
I hated setting rat traps when my attic was invaded back in CA.
I hate rodents...rats, especially!!!

Bears freak me out, also. Especially grizzlies. I have to take sleeping pills when camping in a tent. Of course, that means I'm going to snooze right through a bear attack and will probably be eaten. I'm fine with that.

See the spider thread......

Heights and tight spaces make me uncomfortable. I did actually have an extension ladder slide out under me when I was a kid. Freaked the hell out of me.

Don Ro 07-18-2015 05:28 PM

Now fear of bears is not irrational, IMO.

I have had occasion to work on the top of the world... bridges... skyscrapers....

I am seriously claustrophobic...

Can't stand confining spaces..... first ever MRI I had I freaked and made them pull me out...

Note old pic to follow... I am at ease 360 feet in the air on a 24 in dia cable....

In an enclosed space.... not so good

yeeesh. I'm getting the heebie jeebies just looking at that pic. No fear of being that high is irrational.

I found that I have a fear of being eaten by sharks when snorkeling in Hawaii. When you see a huge fish swim out of a hole, and it's right next to you, you get a little bit agitated.

If you run into a bear face to face, I think it's ok to be afraid. In fact, anything that actually may help to save your life is rational.

I hate swimming in the ocean. Hate it.

Aw hell no.

Grew up offshore fishing...Bluefins, Swords, Marlin, Shark....

When I was about 17, one of the props on my dads boat grabbed a line from a lobster pot while we were offshore fishing ...

I got to jump in and cut the line away and clear the prop....

No worries.... an MRI forget it.... and then there are trained people present...

I am all effed up

I have no phobias or irrational fears that I know of. I don't pick up spiders or snakes but I have no fear of them.

I guess the closest thing that I would consider to be a slightly irrational fear is wasps. I have not been stung since I was a kid but I had a severe allergic reaction and had to go to the hospital.

M.D. Holloway 07-18-2015 06:21 PM

Motion, use the glue traps unless your afraid of sticky stuff

pete3799 07-18-2015 07:07 PM

Needles.
I don't faint or anything......just can't watch them stick a needle in my arm.

wdfifteen 07-18-2015 07:10 PM

The OP. You have a fear of mousetraps? You just need to have a few snap you. It's not bad. But I understand irrational fears.
Me: open water, confined spaces, and to some extent snakes creep me out. Spiders and other critters don't bother me at all..

Ooo. The only problem I had in this area was when a tech was taking several vials of my blood. She had me hold the filled vials between my fingers. I didn't mind the sight of my blood being drawn into these test tubes, but the feel of its warmth on my fingers was creepy.

stomachmonkey 07-18-2015 07:34 PM

Needles.

I used to have recurring drowning dreams.

Gas and electricity, if I can't see, hear, or smell it and it can kill me it freaks me out.

The last two are not irrational though.

As a kid in Germany I stuck a piece of metal in an electrical outlet. Pain, can feel it today like it was yesterday. As far as gas, when I was 10 the oven blew up on my mother, I can still remember the sound of her skin sizzling.

flatbutt 07-18-2015 07:39 PM

This may not be an irrational fear per se but I hate when some flying insect lands on my bare skin. Freaks me out.

sc_rufctr 07-18-2015 08:12 PM

Snakes freak me out... I can handle anything else including spiders but Snake are the worst.
I'm OK with Lizards. (just)

I couldn't watch that movie "Snakes on a plane" (probably a good thing anyway)

Monkeys, apes, men from Cleveland...
