Some of my names that I use:

tractor: Daisy
forklift: Marty (green) yellow forklift: Marigold
truck: Hester
rtv: Pumpkinmobile

I would name your Cayman "Froggy" or "Stinky" Why? Because the face. Look at the face. It will just say what it looks like. Yours looks somewhat happy, so it needs a happy animal name. You could name it after a beetle or happy insect too.

I kind of like "the Kraken." Then you can say to your fiancee at each stoplight, "It is time for me...to unleash...the Kraken." But you have to say it all bass-baritone like Lou Rawls or Barry White. That is the only way you can pull it off. ;)

Around the same time, a friend gave me a gift of a Porsche mug with the "pink pig" 917 on it. At some point, the 951 became "the Purple Pig."

In what world is Garnet = Purple?

For whatever reason, the Garnet Red car looked purple very often, depending on the light. It also sometimes looked bronze or brown-ish. It's an interesting color.

I like a lot of the suggestions here... Black Betty does have a certain je ne se quois, and I also like the idea of a word that corresponds to "raven" or "crow" in another language... I'm definitely mulling those over. Keep the suggestions comin'!

Seriously? Do you not like the design of the Cayman? I'm not sure what would possess a car guy to say something like this to another car guy who is obviously proud of his car. :(

I kinda think of the Cayman as the modern 911 now that the 991 has grown to be more of a GT than a sports car.

I always thought I would get a Boxster some day... but I think my Miata has cured me of the convertible experience so used Cayman may be my next sports car... that if there is a sports car in my future at all. :(

Obsidian Crocodilian. You can call it O.C. for short. Or roll it more like "OhSee".

I like craft beer and seafood. Broiled or grilled fresh fish especially. ;)

ckelly78z 07-25-2015 10:19 AM

I think Black Betty, and then have a personalized license plate that says "BamB-Lam".

scottmandue 07-25-2015 10:26 AM

Just IMHO but Black Betty, Crow, and Raven are not very creative names for a black car...
Just my two cents... of course your car your choice.

I do sorta like the sound of "the Onyx Croc" or "the Ebony Croc", although every time I say either to myself I get a mental picture of the ominous black CLOCK in the westmost room in "Masque of the Red Death".

rusnak 07-25-2015 12:29 PM

Those are not names, they are titles. You can name your car that, but then you'll have to wear a mask and cape like Nacho Libre.

DonDavis 07-25-2015 12:36 PM

Obsidian Reptilian.

How about you name a fair price for it and call it "sold?"

wdfifteen 07-26-2015 12:00 AM

I never understood naming cars. My dad's cars were always "The Blue Goose" even after he traded his blue '37 Chrysler for a black Buick, then a blue Chevy and then a yellow Dodge.
My old truck gets called "WD" because it's a WD-15, but my '56 coupe is just "the old coupe" and my Speedster is just "the Speedster" and my 911 is just "the new coupe."
