Who likes Neapolitan style pizza?
I had read about Neapolitan style pizza a while back, and was intrigued. I finally had some tonight. I thought it was good. It was more simple than what we are used to, but the flavors were excellent, and we didn't leave feeling like we'd eaten lead shot which is usually the case with pizza.
It was from this place Welcome to Pizaro's Pizza Napoletana, an authentic Italian pizzeria located in Houston, Texas. And we got this one Calabrese Tomato sauce, spicy sopressata, pepperoni, and mozzarella and basil. We probably should have gotten the Margherita Tomato sauce with mozzarella and basil. to have a more traditional style Neapolitan. I think we'll go back and that's what we'll get. The missus wants this one. Cornicione Di Ricotta e Spinaci Margherita pizza, crust stuffed with spinach and ricotta so maybe we'll get that. What do you guys think? How do you like it compared to more "normal" pizza that you get here in the US? The guys that like the deep dish probably don't care for it. |
I like it. The deep-dish stuff is just too gross for me. The thinner style with a lighter, flakier crust, less sauce and cheese leaves you feeling satisfied but not bloated like a "traditional" pizza. American-style fare (even pizza) tends to gravitate towards heavy, gloppy stuff with way too much sugar or salt (or both). I'm not a fan of that kind of stuff - I like flavorful and a bit light with a nice mix of olive oil, spice, sauce / tomato chunks and a nice cheese blend applied reasonably (not gloppy).

If it's deep dish with mostly thick crust it's nasty. Take one of those Digornios- all crust.
Yeech. I like thin myself. rjp |
Wait, what? . . . no vid of your wife?

Pizza is the same as steak. Ribeye, hanger, porterhouse, flatiron... they're all great, just depends on what you want.

I just got back from Naples and southern Italy last night....that's one of the many things I'll miss. Limongelato is another.

New York style is my favorite. Thin crust. I'm a traditionalist, pepperoni topping only, with cheese of course. But I like deep dish when I visit Chicago

Check this place out if you're in the midwest: The Stone Barn in Nelson Artisan Food, Antiques and Ambiance
Yup, me and the missus own it~! |
Another traditionalist here as well. Neapolitan is my favorite and what I make at home.
