I would usually give a couple toots of the horn and maybe a short rev.
|
The day I picked my car up, I had a ca. 10yo boy give it a smiling wide-eyed look with a point as he and his dad drove through a stop sign. I was that boy from about age 4 (when I lived in a country when 911s were nonexistent!) just about right up until the day I picked mine up. The next day a boy of the same age asked me, "Is that your Porsche?" (Yes) "I love it!" (So do I!) and I got a thumbs-up from a motorcyclist. Then the next day a couple of 20ish girls walking along the road in a town I was driving through waved at me, which I thought was hilarious (ref. cliches about young women and 40ish men driving Porsches) I am not used to driving a car that garners any attention, but I identify with the boys in particular since that was me! So I always just wave and smile when someone waves at me or etc.

Was riding back home from a car show the other day in my buddies blacked out 56 Chevy. And couldn't believe the constant responses , waves, thumbs up etc along the way.
WOW, people love that car! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1438096122.jpg |
Two short chirps of the horn. Maybe a wave if it's appropriate.

If I'm not feeling chatty I just say it's my dads car.

If they gesture, I give the typical "cool guy" head nod in response. If they say something, I respond in kind with a "Thank you," or some such.

She gets more young men asking her if it is for sale than we ever imagined. Or they just want to look inside since they have never seen one up close...other than the poster on their wall when thy were kids. It remains a beautiful car. The 560SL sparks interest from a different crowd, very appreciative guys my age who just want to talk cars. When I had my 356 at least twice a trip the folks in the car next to me at a stop light would ask how I got in there:) |
During the 3 weeks or so after Thanksgiving, I take my crew and set up a Christmas tree lot. An architect that I recognize from my real job drives up with his late 60s fully restored Beetle with a roof rack. He buys a tree and wants us to load a 8' Noble Fir with a stand on his Beetle.
I refused. I asked him to please let me deliver the tree to his house, for free, rather than risk damaging that pristine Beetle and especially the vintage roof rack. He was almost like "oh. ok, if you want to". I loaded the tree on the flatbed out of respect for the car. |

I get lots of waves when I drive this -- I even get lots of what year is that? Heck its a wagon -- I smile - wave - appreciate the interest - if we talk I just say work in progress -- the original SUV sans the S - but I cheat a little under the hoodhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1438118005.jpg |
My slantnose gets all sorts of attention. I love the car. My son named it Kachow when he was 3 and now my 2 year old calls it Kachow as well.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1438118550.jpg I usually nod and say thank you. I also give thumbs up when I see a cool car or truck. |
^^^^^^^
Good point -- I like everything - always enjoy all facets of the hobby -- Slantnose - ++++++ |
I actually get more attention in my old beater Jeep Truck than I do in the 911. Then again, this is Arizona where they looooove their Jeeps.
