Fun little car story....
So I'm out on my bike last Friday, and I come across a late 80s Corvette for sale in front of a rather large home that sits on a couple acres. I need another mechanical gizmo in my life like a hole in my head, but does that stop me from inquiring, nooooo.... They were having a garage sale at the time, so I rode my bike up the long driveway, under an archway that opens into a paved courtyard where they are having the sale.
I discover that the entire left side of the house is in fact an 8 car garage, and one of the sets of double doors is open. Inside are tables with stuff they are selling. The walls of the garage are painted with a beautiful mural of clouds and and a large Merecedes logo on the back wall. On the right side of the garage, there is a very accurate painting of what appears to be a 1930s MB. So i get talking to the old lady and her kids, and they clearly car nuts too, so were having a nice talk. She tells me that the MB depicted on the wall used to owned by her husband. So I walk a little farther into the courtyard, and now I can see the other side of the garage, and painted on the wall is a gullwing. I whip around and sputter, "did your husband used have a gullwing?!" The older gal smiles and says, "nope, we have a gullwing." She and the kids had a good laugh at me as my jaw dropped, I put one hand on my heart, and another to the heavens like Fred Sanford doing his "Elizabeth, its the big one, I'm coming to meet you honey!". Sadly, the car was not stored there (or at least that's what they told me), no photos. Still, it was a cool moment. The family enjoyed seeing just how thunderstruck I was, and I loved talking to them about they're cars. Fun, unexpected moment in the middle of my bike ride. ![]() |

OMG - A GULLWING!!!
Where the hell do you live? Oh, I forgot. Ohio. ![]() But seriously, it is great when you get to share the passion with people you meet, especially if it is in an every day encounter and not at a show. I see gullwings on a regular basis in CA. On the road. First one was when I registered my out of state cars moving here at the DMV. Old guy (>80) with his mechanic. The mechanic had to drive. Just had finished restoration. Maroon. He let me sit in it. I was shocked how impractical entry / exit was across that big berm on the side. He liked my 71 Cutlass S Convertible - complimented the "stance". I offered to trade straight across but no takers. Haha! So, did you buy the vette? Was it a C4? G |
