Recommendations for legal music download sites
Does anybody have any recommendations for any easy to use "pay-per-tune" (to wit: legal) music download sites - principally stuff from the early 60' to early 70's classic R & R. I am tired of screwing about with i-tunes. I've done a search of previous posts & most of the info is 3-5 yrs old therefore somewhat dated. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cheers JB

I am big fan of RDIO simply because I felt it had a deeper selection then Spotify.

The OP asked for a download site. Spotify & RDIO are both streaming services. If you really want a download site, Amazon is probably your best bet.

Spotify allows the creation of playlists, which does then download the songs to your phone - no streaming required.

RDIO also allows unlimited downloads($9 a month subscription required) to a mobile device with no streaming.

Use a YouTube to MP3 converter, and rip directly from the official record company channel.

I still like the idea of using "usenet" or the newsgroups through a reader such as Usenet Explorer. When the downloading laws were written covering things like Napster, etc, etc, the newsgroups were never mentioned since the folks doing the spec development did not know what that was! So if you want songs by artists you have never heard of or a recording of long lost session of Jimi Hendrix and Steven Stills in a studio in Berkeley CA stoned out of their minds playing jazz, that is the place to go.

You might want to consider emusic.com. They charge about 2/3 what iTunes and Amazon charge.
It's a subscription site. You sign up for a monthly plan, say $10, $20, whatever. Plus they offer $25 of free music when you sign up. You can then download that much music before the end of the month. Unfortunately you cannot go over that, nor can you join without a monthly plan. You can cancel anytime, there are no restrictions about that. Like I said, the prices are about 2/3 what iTunes and Amazon charge, but there is a bit of a catch. If you don't spend all your money by the end of the month, you lose it. Say you have a $20/month plan and you've spent $15. Your balance is now $5. When your due date comes, they will charge you another $20. But instead of having a balance of $25 like you would think, your balance is $20, so you lose that $5. Of course, all you have to do is spend the total amount and you don't lose anything. I think this catch is how they keep prices low. They collect this extra money from unsuspecting users.
