Yep sometimes German starters get stuck. I hate it when stuff breaks. I had to change one in a gas station parking lot while on the way to a backpacking adventure. Troubleshoot, diagnosis, parts sourcing, and R&R was about 2.5 hrs. Did I mention it was 105F that day and the van was in full sun?

Shaun, don't tie knots in span sets it reduces their strength by overly bending the fibers. I'd also would have put some burlap or cardboard between the hook and the span set to spread the load. I get involved in a lot of heavy rigging for my work.

the compressor is top heavy so I'm putting a strap around the top of the tank and bottom, connecting the two with a vertical strap and then carabiner that I can slide up and down to find the sweet spot/center of mass for towing it up with the winch.

I know how you feel. It happens all the time. Fcuking people. That's why people like you and myself are always busy because once people find out how row reliable and responsible you are, they will beat down your door or wait for your service.

I don't know if it's the same starter or not, but my daughter's 2003 Jetta just had that problem....good battery, won't crank, just clicks occasionally. It was the wiring grounding tether between the starter, and the solenoid (about 1" long and 1/2" wide). I removed the starter while in her driveway and took it to Advanced Auto to benchtest it....sure enough, that tether cable sparked and smoked when tested. Luckily this happened when she was at home and we didn't need to involve AAA.
