Thumbs up Ohio State Highway Patrol Officer Saves Truck Driver's Life

An officer with the Ohio State Highway Patrol was honored this week for saving a semi-truck driver’s life back in April. Dashcam footage just released shows trooper Eric Devers arrive at the scene of a crash and immediately sprint toward the driver. The trooper found the man still belted into his seat. Shortly after, his eyes rolled back into his head and he stopped breathing, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

“Keep breathing!” Devers can be heard shouting in the video. “Don’t you die! Don’t you die on me! Come on!”Since being posted on Facebook by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on Thursday, the footage has amassed more than 5 million views.

Devers received a Certificate of Recognition for his actions on Thursday. The driver ultimately made a full recovery after being transported to the hospital.

While what the trooper did was laudable, he really was just doing his job. It was just another day for a trooper, but that's what they're paid to do. He didn't face any danger and it doesn't sound like he applied any life saving first aid. He kept the guy awake and kept him from going into shock long enough for emergency medica personnel to get on the scene. Being in the same place at the same time I am confident that any Pelican would have done the same. I would be disappointed if there is anyone on this board who wouldn't have. The trooper will get accolades and compensations and he will deserve all the attention he gets.

But at the same time we live in a world where it's just accepted that an old white man can walk into any establishment and be given a cup of water simply for the asking. But a young black girl in the same situation, same time and same place is told that she doesn't get that kind of consideration. She wasn't injured. Her life didn't depend on getting a glass of water. By she was injured to the soul because she was told that she wasn't good enough to receive basic human consideration just because she was who she is.

One man stopped to make her feel better and maybe heal a bit of the injury to that soul and show a little back girl that not all of society is indifferent to her. Any of us would have helped that trucker as he was taking his last breath. How many of us would have offered that black girl a glass of water.

Sounded to me like the trooper was doing CPR chest compressions. I would think that they helped to save his life.

His actions were laudable, nice to have something good to point to that LEO do. The guy probably would have died without intervention, from the sound of it.

I am not even sure how many times my wife has stopped at traffic accidents. Last one with the dead kid sort of messed her up.

Now they get fired or publicly humiliated when they act badly and I support that. I see no reason not to recognize them when they do good, even if it is their job.

Exactly. I take CPR annually at work but I can't imagine actually doing it.
