Need shop or mechanic in Orange County tomorrow
So, Sidney and I were on our way for a quick trip to CA with the boys to visit my Dad who flew in this weekend after seeing his oncologist and getting the good news that his cancer hasn't grown or spread anymore than it already had. But on our way to CA, the AC went out on my old Sienna minivan. Sidney thinks it's the compressor. Anybody know of a mechanic who might be able to help us? Sidney said he wouldn't mind doing it but would need the tools, space, and part. We are leaving on Sunday so we are almost just expecting that we will have to drive the boys back to AZ in miserable hot weather (did we mention it was 117 today?) Anyway, we thought we might as well see if the Pelican network could help or have any brighter ideas.
Thanks in advance!

Glad to hear about your dad. Believe in modern medicine. My father is a 14 year, stage 3 lung cancer survivor.
My mechanic is Toyota specific and we also have a Sienna but he's in LA and not orange county. Not sure if that would help you. We have using them for over 25 years. Very honest. If you call ahead, they should be able to fit you in their schedule. Sorry to hear about the AC trouble. Man, 117 is Africa hot Last edited by look 171; 08-14-2015 at 09:28 PM.. |

Maybe you just have a leak? Grab a can from the parts store, and maybe you can limp it home on a few cans of r 134. Just a thought.
Great news about Dad. Good luck . Like Jim, if I was in so cal, I would hand you and Sid the keys to the building.

Wow, I hope you found a shop. This is a bad weekend to have A/C problems.
I am up in the northern part of L.A. and on my way out of town but you need a shop for A/C work. I do not do my own A/C repair because I don't have the equipment. I could swap a compressor but you need the correct A/C oil, (and the knowledge of how much to put in), plus an AC machine that evacuates the system and refills it, etc. The other thing is that any competent AC shop can diagnose the issue very quickly. Throwing expensive parts at it and emptying the system in the process could lead to nothing but a lighter wallet and a hot car. The bummer is that it's the weekend, I'd be on the phone trying to get it into a Pep Boys or anywhere that's open today. I'd also be on the phone to Enterprise getting a rental car, (most are open Sat. till noon), this heat is no joke. Enterprise has unlimited free miles and taking car to AZ and back is ok, so if you need to be back home on Mon. for work and can't get Toyota fixed until then, you're covered. Bad timing for sure, (breakdowns usually are), I hope you can get it in somewhere today. Good luck.

I tried adding freon. I got one of those cans with a a gauge and it has plenty of freon. Looks like the clutch is toast. T went from cooling fine to not at all.
Thuys dad got in touch with a family member who owns a shop and they are working on it now. No way are we driving home in the hot. I'll send Thuy home in a rental with the boys and get it fixed during the week if I have to. |

Did you find a place yet? I am in Corona, have lots of tools and a vacuum pump to evacuate the system if you need. There are parts places around here that may have the compressor.

I'm in South L.A. (west of Long Beach) but looks like you have it handled.
However If you need a place to work on the car Monday my garage is available.

Thanks for the offers to help guys. Thuys dad was able to get a rebuilt compressor put on for $450 for us. Gotta love family deals. It was a bad clutch.
