Good for Kimi, obviously. And if Ferrari can build a car to compete better with Mercedes, then good for Ferrari, too. It seems that if Kimi's not at the pointy end of the field, then he seems to offer only lackluster performances. But put him in P1/P2 and then it's "Yeah, yeah, I know what I'm doing."

Very surprised about that... Continuity? What for? They have Vettel locked up.... It's not like Kimi has a reputation as a super technical feedback guy. They could have had Bottas for the future, Hulkenberg for peanuts. I gotta think Vettel's opinion counted for a lot (he likes Kimi and he's no threat to him)... I suspect this is 2016 only and then retirement... they probably already signed Bottas for 2017, which was cheaper than paying off Williams...
I like the Kimster, but he's gotten trashed by Alonso and Vettel now, I wonder if he took a paycut. |

I don't think Bottas would have been a good choice. Ferrari are in much the same position as McLaren. The younger talent won't help much when you have a huge development race to catch up on. I think we'll see some driver changes next year.

Kimi must be working with a PR coach. I've never heard him say something so politically correct as this:
"What can I say... For me, to be able to stay another year at Ferrari means that the dream goes on," he said. "The Scuderia is my family, as I always said, it’s here I want to end my career. I am more committed than ever and I want to say thank you to the people who gave me this chance. Also, a big thank you goes to all my Ferrari fans, for their continuous support." 'Dream goes on' as Ferrari retain Kimi

Kimi does deserve at least one more year at Ferrari. He has proven before at both Ferrari and Lotus that he can drive the wheels off a car when it is right.

Either way he has proven that he can't keep up with a top driver in the exact same car. Just like alonso was much faster than Massa last year, kimi can't keep up with Vettel this year. Vettel has almost twice as many points as kimi in the exact same car YTD. Vettel starts mid pack and moves toward the front and to the podium. Kimi starts mid-pack and moves back 10 places by the end of the race. I've always been a fan but this year he has disapointed me as I've seen just how talented he really is. |

It gets confusing... Kimi could not match Alonso. He cannot match Vettel. Yet Vettel could not match Ricciardo at redbull either ;-) Kimster does well when he likes everything, he's picky with the steering as well... Sounds like not all top drivers are good at driving around a bad car or modifying their style. I don't judge, they are better than me... Alonso however seems to be able to drive the pi$$ out of a donkey cart. To an extent, Hamilton as well (and it pains me to say that).

Kimi's had more than his share of bad luck and mechanical issues this year when compared with Vettel.

RBR and Vettel knew they were parting, this will "reflect" in a drivers result. Ferrari's pit strategy would sacrifice the car Alonso wasn't driving for either test data, or to block at a particular time of the race, staying out on a bad tire strategy. You really really can't compare the huge result gaps at Ferrari between Alonso and his teammate, as the radio communication shows a different picture of Ferrari putting their eggs in one basket.
